Drip, Drip, Drip

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Welcome back!

We have a faucet in the bathroom that is now not co-operating very well.

Sometimes it drips, sometimes, it doesn’t. As faucets go, it isn’t as bad as it could be, though. At least the bathtub catches the drips of water. I have heard of the Chinese water torture and how it is supposed to work. Well, what can I say. At least it isn’t dripping on our heads driving us crazy.

Okay, I know that faucets aren’t something that most people like to talk about, but why not? I mean, almost all homes have them these days. A very few places still have the old fashioned pump that needs to be primed in order to work. I thank God for faucets and the convenience of a simple flick of the wrist getting good, drinkable water coming out of the tap. don’t you appreciate it, too? :)

Just a Pinch

Friday, July 25th, 2008

I have been pinched, again.

It is nothing serious, just my cat demanding my attention. My husband and I were getting ready to go to sleep, I was putting my sleeping mask on, had my hands in the air, and the next thing I knew I was being pinched on the underside of my arm. Immediately after this happened, she took off like a streak with her tail held high.

tShe came back later and tried to sneak up on me, but I caught her and mushed on her for my type of revenge. Mushing involves rubbing the cat all over and ruffling her fur. Of course this revenge doesn’t work very well because she is purring the whole time.

When she has wanted my husband’s attention, she has been known to nip him on his rump. She is small with long soft fur on her. I included her picture on an earlier post called “Internet Kitty“. She still likes to sit on top of the computer while it’s on. I keep post-it notes all over the surrounding part of the monitor case. She doesn’t like these things and will use her teeth to pick off the ‘offending’ note and then drop it on the table. She has her opinions and is not afraid to let them be known. :)

Schools

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Just read an article on a site called OFF THE CUFF. In this article, a lottery was discussed that would be for the entire state. The proceeds could be used to help the education situation with the Arkansas schools.

I live in a state where we do have a lottery, funds are used to help schools. do all the proceeds go to help education….I don’t know, but it is helping. When the children are not given every chance to help themselves, it is the same as pushing their heads under the surface of the water of life. The children need every boost to help them. Our world is moving fast with technology and other things, so much so that our children need all the help they can get.

Am I saying that all lotteries are to be sought. No, I don’t know how they are all used. However, our kids should not have any handicaps put in their way. Don’t you agree? Check out OFF THE CUFF, read what is written there, think about your kids.

What is in a name

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Just read an article on the internet that had me wondering if the parents were on LSD.

A nine year old girl in New Zealand finally got her name changed. I cannot imagine what her parents were thinking to have named her - Talula Does The Hula… I do not think that the parents have any love for their child. I can understand wanting your child to have a name that means something special, but get real people.

How can it be love to handicap an innocent child with a name that will make them into someone that will be mocked and made fun of? Why did the child have to wait for nine years to get that horror changed? Why was it even allowed to be put onto her birth certificate to begin with? Too bad that the parents can’t have their names changed to Moron #1 and Moron #2 for the rest of their lives to see if they would like to be mocked and made fun of because of a name. I do not understand how or why someone would do that to a kid.

Popcorn

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

In my article I wrote previously mentioned movies. Well, what goes with movies as well as popcorn?

My husband and brother are watching a movie as I type. My Super Ex-girl Friend is the movie. Frankly I would hate to be the one trying to break up with someone who can send my car into orbit. Thank God there ain’t no such thing. These days breaking up is hard enough without the idea of someone who can go schizo with super powers. The movie Fatal Attraction is proof of that danger.

Well, I’m married, soon to be 25 years in August. I don’t regret one day of those 25 years. I no longer have to worry about a boy friend. Now, all I have to worry about is running out of popcorn when we watch movies, corn chips are great but they are too salty. I wouldn’t mind having sliced tomatoes (as long as they come from Arkansas right now), but they don’t last very long. Oh well, back to popcorn, I watch another bag get eaten, and all I can say is…Thank God for the microwave type. :)

Movies, Movies

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

We have too many movies. I never thought that I would say something like that, but it is true.

We started with a few movies in some boxes that used to have Ramen noodles in them. You know the ones…six cups of instant noodles that all you do is add hot water. Well, the collection has grown considerably. We have a 4 foot wide bookcase filled to over flowing, another bookcase that is 4 foot tall is filled. Another bookcase and another.

How did this happen? Well, our collection was small, then my mother-in-law started to collect movies. When she got tired of them, she would give them to us or to my husband’s brother. DVD’s of course do not fit in the same space that VHS movies use, they use less. If we were to sell these movies for 1$ each, we would have several hundred dollars. Of course then, we would have to replace all of the movies that we like. We no longer have to go rent movies to watch something that we like, but we can’t always find the particular movies that we are looking for though. Am I complaining? Nope, just need more bookcases.

On the News

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I watched a TV report today that makes me think that the politicians have no brains even more than I have thought at other times.

There is a school in Waco, Texas, that has had failing grades for 5 years. They keep wanting to close it, so the children can go to another school that is getting passing grades. A couple of the people on the council are fighting this as they have done so for the past 5 years. I wonder how the children are doing? They after all, are the ones stuck in a school that is NOT teaching properly, the students are not passing the Texas Assessment tests, which means that they are not learning. Yet, these people on the council cannot see that the school needs to be closed. The teachers are not doing what they are being paid to do, which is teach. There is $8,000 per student being spent, while in a school with passing grades only $4,000 per student is being spent.

I wonder where the extra money is going, for it obviously is not going for the students to learn. One of the council members says he does not want the students to be bussed. At another school they would have a chance in life, a chance to be educated, not to pass time.

I’m going to sneeze

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Really.

Am I the only one with allergies acting up so bad this year? Every time the front door opens, my eyes water, my throat will start to itch terribly, I cough, and cough, but can’t seem to get satisfied. I have nastiness in my throat and have to keep clearing it. YECH !!

It hasn’t been as wet this year as others. We are told that we are in a drought situation here in Texas. Sooooo, why all of the allergy trouble? I don’t know. I just know that it is a miserable feeling. Allergy pills are a God send.

Have you ever tried to type when you have the sneezes? You can type some really interesting things and create a new language. Oh course, that doesn’t mean that anyone can read it. Then there is the idea of my body producing such strange things that don’t look as if they belong to me (I won’t describe them), yet they have come from me.

OK, OK, OK, yes, I am whining. I’ going to sneeze again. Later people. :}

Drugs

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

This is another rant on something that has been bothering me.

On the TV and in other types of media you hear about drug busts. The police are trying to stop a poison that is decaying our society. The users of course, do not help. The pushers have their own agenda and don’t care if they are destroying lives and families with what they sell. I found an article by Business 2.0 on some of the things that drug cartels are doing to improve their ‘business’. I found the page on Stumble Upon. I tried to make a link for this article, but it didn’t work right. So, I tried something different. It makes me ill to hear how they have no limits on what they feel like doing to keep pushing their poison.

The authorities are limited in what they are allowed to do. The cartels feel no limits. What I wonder is, what excuse do the USERS have for breaking the law? Since everyone knows that drug use is bad and illegal, what is their excuse? Why aren’t they punished in a more extreme manner for their willful breaking of the law and common decency? The pushers wouldn’t be trying so hard to sell their poison if people weren’t willing to buy and use it? If the demand went away, the suppliers would not find a market for this stuff. Am I being naive? Probably am, but it seems to me that a slap on the hand is not working. Just like driving while drunk is no accident. It is a willful breaking of the law.

Door to Door

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Just spent a bit of time reading about door-to-door magazine salespeople. The lie told, the risks taken, and the customers unaware are all mentioned.

What you don’t know about door-to-door magazine sales is quite an article. It has been some time since this was started. Door-to-door sales people have been going around the country for decades. There used to be horror stories about the farmer’s daughter and the salesman. Those horror stories have gotten worse. Murder, rape, robbery are all now things that have happened. If a sales person - Make that when a salesperson comes to your door, think twice before opening the door and letting this person into your house. If picking up a hitch-hiker is dangerous, that person at the door……they could be either a young person trying to make a living, or even your worst nightmare. Wither way, BE CAREFUL.
