Health Problems

Recently, My husband and myself have been learning about a whole new ball game when it comes to health concerns. Our friend had cancer, and was a Veteran. The VA took care of him in the final stages of his life.

My husband has health insurance through Medicare, but I have nothing to fall back on. With what our friend went through, it does make me think. There was a lot involved in his care and what was needed to be done. We are still going through some trials in trying to find his family members, and in planning his funeral. There is more involved than either of us had expected.

I’ve Been Gone

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

This past week has been hard. Some parts of it have been good. Our long time friend had been sick in the Hospital. He was dying in the VA Hospice unit near where we live. He had lung cancer that had spread through out his entire body.

His name was James Raymond Moore and he passed away yesterday at 4 am. He had been in a lot of pain. The nurses were really gentle with him and tried to help him to escape the pain. He was having trouble breathing and each breath was a fight for him. I am very sad to loose him but, he is now no longer hurting. He loved the Lord Jesus very much, so I know that he is now in a better place. He has family but we have no idea how to locate them. He had a lot of nick-names: Jesse, Two Moons, Sonny. A half brother called Ronald and a niece called Gail. We are feeling two things right now. Sorrow for his loss, and relief for him that he no longer hurts and is in pain.

I still cry because I miss him, though. However, I wouldn’t want him to continue to suffer.

Busybody

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Have you ever had a nosy neighbor that seems to think that every body else’s business happens to be theirs too? Well, where we live there are a couple like that. One is old and lonely, I can understand that. The other is way younger than I am, and almost the age to be a ‘gasp’ daughter to me.

She has a boyfriend that likes to go around and try to intimidate the other residents of the apartment complex when he thinks that someone might have insulted his girlfriend. What he doesn’t realize is that he is very close to being banned from the property and she is close to being asked to move. Lonely people sometimes do strange things. When they are not lonely, but happen to be busybodies, what do you do?

I am not so sure myself. Feeling like saying they should mind their own business does not make friends or influence enemies in the right manner. Meanwhile they get on other’s nerves and put her residency at risk. How do you say NOYB (none of your business) in a nice manner? I am stumped. Well, at least I can blow some steam in a safe manner and have a chance to think about it. What do you think? Be nice, please. :)

Light

Friday, October 24th, 2008

As I sit here and type, I wish that I had the good light that is over where my brother is. The lighting fixtures in this apartment are very old fashioned. We have had to remove the glass globes that cover the light bulbs so that we are able to reach the fixture to change the bulbs.

One fixture in the living room is so long that the globe would not fit over the type bulb that we have in it. The dining room where the computer is, well, it isn’t very bright. Not that at this time of night I’m very bright myself, I could use a little help when it is this late. It is after ten pm after all. :)

I enjoy the idea of a fan with the ceiling light in the living room, but it shakes so much that I hate to use the fan. If I had the money, I would change out the fixture myself. That’s life. Some things are good, some not so. At least we have a place to live, food to eat, and electricity for the lights that we do have. It is getting late and we have had a busy week, so I guess that I’ll sign off for now and probably dream about light bulbs, too.

Hospice Care

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

We were able to see Jess yesterday. We were there for a number of hous. He did not look like the man we are used to seeing anymore.

The VA hospice unit where he is staying is doing what they can to help him be comfortable. Well, as comfortable as is possible when someone is dying. They do not have an abundance of workers to help. They could also use donations of items for the patients to have things to do.

It hurts to see someone that we care about slowly dying, with no way to make them better. Jess goes by a lot of names. Some of his names are nick-names. When it comes right down to it, he is just ‘Bro” to my husband and myself. If you know someone who is in hospice, or you have puzzles, craft items, books, and other things, they could all be used to help ease the time of those who are sick.

If you know someone who needs hospice care, there is an organization that can help.
Hospice Net.org is one such organization.

Remember that people in hospice are still people, with feelings, emotions. They feel pain, get scared, get bored just like we all do.

News About Jess

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

A while back I wrote about some concerns that my husband and I had about our family member/friend Jess.

He is now in the Temple VA. Today he and we found out a lot about what had been going on when he had been in the Dallas VA. First, he had wanted to be in Temple all along. That got side tracked. Second he wanted his belongings. That got ignored.

There are things in process to get everything straightened out and his belongings to him where they belong. He still needs prayers. I am not able to tell everything that had happened, there is a lot of private stuff there. Please continue to pray for him.

Food

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I like food. Many times someone has asked what type of food I like. I’m afraid my answer is that it would easier to say what I did not like than to list the things that I do like.

My list of food I do not like includes: tentacles, oysters, jalapeƱos, asparagus, and boiled okra. I like fried okra, and okra in stews and soups, and gumbo. I have eaten buffalo, bear, duck, rabbit, squirrel, lobster, and other items. However, the list of food I like is still not so easy to list. What is nice, is that the world is filled with so many choices. It keeps life from getting boring. Isn’t it great that the world is also filled with a lot of different types of people, too. :)

Games 4

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Here i am again with the games to drive me crazy. I had blogged earlier about a game that had a grid of letters that needed to be eliminated, well, it has been changed. So, I looked through the site that i had gotten it from and found another one that drives me coo-coo just like the coo-coo clock bird.

This one has blocks in a framework, and you are supposed to get the red block out. Round and round they go and where they stop is only when you get the red block out. If you like thinking games, this one will make you think. :)

Pain Again

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Well, the pain monster has been striking again. The arthritis that has been bothering me these past weeks has really gone overboard in keeping me awake even when I’m very tired.

I even dreamed about taking pain pills during the time that I was asleep. It is hard to sleep when it keeps feeling like there is a white hot poker being shoved into my knee cap. Last night I got so desperate to get sleep that I had to take Aleve, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin. Of course that is also including coating my knee with muscle rub to induce heat into the joint. UG, not fun, not, not, not! I realize that I sound like I’m griping, because I am. I figure it is better to grip with the keyboard than to expose my loving husband to the gripes. He cares, and does not deserve to hear the gripes. Getting this off my chest helps. I can see the humor in dreaming about pain pills, though. The dreaming of it doesn’t help, but it does make for interesting thoughts when I wake up. :)

E-Mail Headaches

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Well, I have been having interesting times. Something has gone wrong with my e-mail. I try to retrieve it and keep getting the message that there are no new messages in the server.

Sine I am not digitally minded, I have no idea how to fix it. I usually get over 100 e-mails each day and since i haven’t been able to access them, they are probably adding up. One of these days, maybe I’ll find out how to gain access again.
