Breakfast

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Welcome back!

As I write this I realize that it is after noon time and yet, I haven’t eaten yet. Breakfast would be nice, but I do not want to have to fix it myself. Am I lazy? Well, not really, I just burn the pancakes, and make the smoke detector in the apartment go off.

One thing that I like to have for breakfast is usually not listed as a breakfast item. Cold pizza is something that, to me, is yummy. Eggs, at the same time can also be used for things other than breakfast. They can be very flexible in how they are used. My favorite way of eating them is by drinking eggnog. Hard to find unless you like the stuff that comes in cartons in the store. I have never tried the stuff in a can, though. Meanwhile, I am hungry. I have a presence to maintain after all. Two Ton Tilly will not work if I am skinny. :)

Time

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Time is something that gets to everyone alive. Whether they keep track of it or not, time will pass and some times people do not keep track of it. Take today for example, when you woke up on the morning, time had changed, the hours specifically had changed because of daylight savings time changing. The computer takes care of itself, so does the VCR and the TV.

The rest of the clocks in the house we need to change when we remember them. We have no Guess watches, most of what we have are the cheap kind that use quartz. My husband cannot wear a wind up watch because of the electricity in his body. He has ruined a lot of watches before when he didn’t realize what the problem was. One watch he gave to a friend. This friend put it on the mantle at his house for 5 years. We were visiting one day when the watch started to work again. A total surprise there, because I had looked at it when the second hand started to move again. Digital watches go totally blank on him and never work again. When he has found watches that do work, the batteries do not last 6 months, they have lasted for up to 3 years instead. Even when he had been in the hospital wearing a heart monitor, the electricity in his body fried several of them until the hospital personnel figured out what was wrong. It was a learning experience for sure. :)

Car Insurance

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

One of the things that I wondered about when our friend was traveling was his car insurance. How did he keep it intact. Most states require the presence of car insurance these days, and they now have ways of checking if your car insurance is up to date even if they do not stop you and ask for proof of insurance. How do you compare auto insurance when you are traveling? How do you find a good deal with a reputable firm? I do not know. We have had our insurance with the same firm for almost 25 years now. When we did move from Arkansas to Texas, we kept the same firm, although we changed the agent to who ever was local.

I used to like the idea of travel, but thinking on all that would take to do now…don’t think it would be as enjoyable as it once was. Keeping track of people, medicine, a place to sleep, food to eat, shelter, family, friends. I guess there is something to be said for roots that are put down in one location, in one locale.

Life’s Necessities

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Necessities indeed. Food , shelter, transportation, medicine or medical care, loving family. All of those have proven to be necessities in the long run. With all of the scurrying that has been going on for the past two weeks, some things have been made very apparent to me.

Our friend traveled all over the country. We have found papers from many different states. He, himself did not have any idea where his family members were living, and trying to find even one of them…well, it hasn’t happened. We have had loving family around us as we have gone through all of the brouhaha with the rules concerning his care, and burial, and research galore. Thank God our family has stuck by us even when we were not able to socialize because of exhaustion. It will take a while to recover fully and finally get rested. I am just glad that we were able to be there for him.

Please don’t think that I am preaching, but if you have lost track of family, look for them while you can. All of my family except that which I have by marriage is dead except for my mother, whom I cannot find. I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that I do not lose contact with what family I have left. Their presence is a comfort to me, now. We do not always agree on everything (heaven forbid), but they are important.
