Slang

Welcome back!

Do you use slang?

I do use it. I just realized that the type of slang that you use does indeed show your age. When I was growing up I heard ‘rad man’, cool, way out….I think that you understand what i mean.

Now, when I hear teenagers talk, it sounds like a foreign language to me. I am indeed showing my age. Living in different parts of the country can also influence what type of words you use, and how they are pronounced. I remember when I was young and waiting at a bus stop. I heard two men talking. One was from the Bronx, and one was obviously a deep south Cajun. They were both speaking English, but the way they pronounced their words made it hard for them to understand each other. I ended up translating for them a little. It was totally unexpected for me, because I understood them both. I was raised in the middle part of the country in Missouri. Of course slang is one of the things that is determined by where you live. One of these days I expect to hear that the universities are offering courses in modern slang. Texting is another article of course.
