My Great Niece

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Welcome back!

I have a great niece in Arkansas that i have not yet been able to see. I have no idea is she needs any baby bedding, clothes, diapers, or what ever. The last that I knew, she was adorable and cuddly looking, but I’ve only seen pictures. One day, I would really like to go see her in person.

Here in Texas, my husband and i have a lot of great nieces, and nephews. We do occasionally get to see them and play with them. I still remember when their parents were only a couple of years old and in no way did I picture them now having kids of their own. I do not like to admit this but, I am beginning to show my age. HA, as if that hadn’t shown before. I have gray hair that is slowly overcoming my own light brown hair. If I was to get a hair rinse, it would be obvious just how much has gone gray. I know that this is all part of life. It is just that when I turned 21, I never had this picture in mind. LIFE HAPPENS , and catches up with us eventually.

Car Repairs

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Well, something new has happened. Our van might need a new wheel bearing on the front tire, and our station wagon needs a new serpentine belt.

Oh joy of joys. That was sarcasm folks.

We have ways to get around, but I really like the idea that we do not have to ask for a ride. At lest we didn’t need to for a while. The van has a flat tire on top of it all. If we fix the flat, we might be able to drive it a little, and slowly, until the car is fixed. Meanwhile, we wait for the monthly money to come in so we can get the car going again. It seems like if it wasn’t one thing, it would be something else. I know that life shouldn’t be one breakdown after another, but that is something that does not show up often.

I will not let it get me down, we have been in worse situations. We at least have a good place to live, friends that can help us, family that loves us, and 2 cats that show their love every day. We are not alone.

We live in a country that medical care available, food available, and transportation available. That is more than some have around. So, while life might get frustrating, it is life. It can change. We have hope. Meanwhile, I will grab one of our cats, hug and love in her, listen to her purr out of my good ear (that hasn’t gone quiet from this flue stuff), and thank God for what we do have. :)

My Chest Hurts

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I know that it is not my heart. The coughing has not gone away, yet. I wish it would.

This cough is so pernicious that it is unbelievable. It started in November, went away, and a second bout started at the beginning of February. When I cough, I can feel a slight burn in my chest, and a little hurt. I am breathing better now than I was before, but it has not yet stopped!

I am frustrated. My husband is frustrated.

However, I am not giving up, because it is not as bad as before.

About Time

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Yes, it is about time. We can breathe again.

We have been in a battle for our health. Starting around November 6, 2008 my husband and I started to cough. This went on until our sides were sore, as if we had been kicked in the sides every time we coughed. Then the mess faded to just occasionally a tickle in the throat.

Bam it came back in all of its nasty UNglory. It started with the runs, then the sore throat, then the cough, then the head so full that we could not think. I lost my appetite for a while there and we only seemed to eat one meal each day to keep us going.

IN OTHER WORDS - TOTAL MISERY.

Now we are breathing again. Our sinuses are still having some trouble, but the rest is going- going- almost gone. Turns out there are a couple of viruses going around that are neasty and all you can do is treat the symptoms and hope to outlast the bug itself. We have succeeded. We ended up with going through 2 types of misery, but we have survived. :)

To Shade, or Not To Shade

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Yes, I know that is a strange sort of quote from Shakespeare.

I have lived in a bunch of places in my life. Some have had blinds on the windows, some have used pull-down-shades. Frankly, I prefer the blinds. You can always peek out through the blinds, but with shades it is rather obvious. Where we live now, the front windows have the blinds, the back window has the shade. Discount Blinds make it easy to fix your windows in the manner that you want. Unless, you want the shades.

Believe it or not, over everything else, I really prefer to have privacy curtains with blinds as an option. I like to look out to see what is going on, but do not want anyone to look in at the same time. Confusing aren’t I? :)

Flu - Yuk

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Have you ever heard of Egg-foo-young? This is not what I am going to write about.

My husband and I have been suffering through the flu. Coughing, fever, aches, pains, and heads so over loaded that it was hard to think. We missed our flue shots this year, and boy have we suffered for that lack.

We are not yet completely over it yet, but it appears that I can think now when I couldn’t think before. In spite of the name of my blog, I had no appetite and didn’t want to eat! For me that is unusual in the extreme. It is amazing what punishment the body can take and yet it will keep functioning - sort of function that is.

Well, things are not yet back to normal, but normal (for us) is getting closer all the time.

Computer Stuff

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Have you ever noticed how confusing that computer stuff can be? There is the tower, the keyboard, the mouse, the monitor, external hard drive, the software, the wires, the…….OY VEY.

I am still learning here. I still believe in the old process of hard copy. Now people have hard drives. I remember when….wait a minute! That is what my grandma used to say. Am I showing my age here? I think so. I still like to have things on paper for just in case. You have heard of old ‘Justin’ haven’t you? Just in case the electric goes out, just in case water gets on something, just in case - well you must get the idea by now. I have seen how some new cars have a keyboard on their sides in order for the person to get access to the car. What does the person do when the car is covered with ICE? I dunno, computers still have their uses, other wise I could not be doing this right now could I?

Horses

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I love critters. They come in all sizes and shapes. Some are very graceful, some are very klutzy like Dodo or Goony birds.

Some modern up-to-date police departments use horses. Horses can be very graceful. If you watch them when they run, it can be poetry in motion, or very dynamic. Of course with that thought in mind I also wonder where those police departments get all of their horse supplies. You know, the saddles, tack, horse shoes, etc.

In New York, they have mounted policemen for the park areas. In New Orleans, they have mounted policemen for riot control. Lets face it a ton of horse flesh is rather impressive isn’t it? I have seen, in comedies, the horse with a sway back. I have seen the small ponies that are used for kiddy rides. Horses come in all sizes. I even stood next to a Clydesdale when it decided to stomp its hoof. The concrete shuddered. Made me glad that the horse itself was friendly. I am not saying that I do not like cars, but there is something about a horse that cannot be replaced with a car.

Humor

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I do enjoy humor. I like to laugh, giggle, snicker, snort, whatever type of noise that I make when there is humor present.

The belly laugh itself can be very therapeutic. Yes, after that type of laugh your sides can be sore, and your belly weak, but it does lift your spirits. How do you feel about humor?

A pie in the face is funny to me. I remember laughing hilariously at old movies of the Keystone Cops. Abbot and Costello, the Three Stooges, Roadrunner were favorites of mine because of humor. These days I find that some of what is represented as humor does not seem to be funny to me. That is sad because people need to laugh. They need something that will cheer them up and give them the exercise of laughter to lighten their spirits.

True humor does not need to embarrass a person in order for it to be humor. Laughter when shared, is a beautiful shared experience. :)

Law, Order, and a Side

Friday, February 6th, 2009

I’ll have a side of slaw with that, please. Oh wait what I just said doesn’t make any sense does it?

Well, I was just funning around with that. Someone I care about just got 10 years probation. Considering what he could have ended up with, that is a blessing. Now it is up to him what he does with it. He didn’t need immigration attorneys, or any fancy footwork. He just needed a second chance.

Many times today, people are not granted a second chance. Too many lives have been wasted, or lost. Our justice system is far from perfect since it is ruled by people, and for people. People are not logical critters. Sometimes emotions get in the way when the emotions are very strong. Do not get me wrong. I am not wanting people to become emotionless robots, just not so uncontrolled in their own responses. I have been blessed in that I have never had the need for legal intervention in my life. I pray that it never does become necessary. At least I realize that in our country, second chances can be gotten.
