Sink or Swim
Welcome back!
Have you ever heard of the old saying “sink or swim”? I have and it can leave you with an uncomfortable feeling if you are the one being told that.
It used to be that kids were taught to swim by being dropped into water to , literally, sink or swim. Then people got the idea that if the kid sinks, the kid might actually drown. So people started to teach kids slowly how to swim in a safe manner that would make sure that they were safe. I was one of the blessed ones that was taught to swim slowly and safely. Of course now, I would float very easily without much effort. Fat does float doesn’t it?
Some things have gotten better in life. Swimming lessons, medicine, flight, electronics, those are only a few things that have gotten better. Plumbing has gotten better when you think of sinks, bathtubs, toilets (thank God for them), washing machines, and dishwashers. Now when I think of sink or swim, I think of a sink, or going to the beach and the surf in order to swim. Life can be good.
