The truck is Gone

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Welcome back!

Well, the truck that plowe3d into the hotel building is finally gone.

The crew having to do the work of the removal had to re-enforce the inside of the building and eventually cut the semi into pieces to remove it. I guess that is one truck that will not hit the highway anymore, at least until it is melted down and remade.

Still do not know the exact reason for the crash. The police have said that the driver either fell asleep, or was medically unconscious. How someone could be asleep and go through 2 ditches, a pond retaining wall and ramp, I do not know.

More later, if it is given to the public.

Thumbs Up for Roomstore

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

I live in Central Texas. An 18 wheeler crashed off of the interstate, across two ditches, across a pond, and a retaining wall. The truck ended up being launched into the air and then crashed into a hotel.

In a nearby Roomstore Outlet in Temple, Texas, the manager asked all of the employees and the residents of the hotel (after evacuation) to come into the store itself in order to stay warm. She did not have to do such a thing, but she did it any way and gave shaken people a chance to be sheltered, comfortable, and warm while the accident officials were examining the scene and the wreck.

This story is on our TV channel TV 10.1. I believe that the Roomstore manager handled this emergency with great elegance and should be commended for her mercy and thoughtfulness. this presents a show of great quality on the part of the manager.

I would not be ashamed to shop there when I need new furniture.

It’s Raining

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

It is raining outside. I wouldn’t want it to rain INSIDE, although we have lived in a place where that happened.

The fact that it is raining is a very POSITIVE thing. We have been very dry here in Texas lately, and there are a lot of burn bans all over the state. It would have to rain steadily for a while in order to make any difference in the way the ground has dried out. The farmers in this area really need the rain that is happening right now. I hope that none of them lose their crops. Bad financial news is all over the country. The last thing that anyone would need is for food prices to go up any more.

I am hoping that this rain will end up being beneficial in the long run.

5 Wheels of Torment Still Around

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Guess what? I still have the chair that I called 5 wheels of torment. It still does cause problems when I forget just how close the wheels are and I manage, yet again, to hit my toes. Talk about pain! I try to avoid turning the air blue, but it does hurt.

I still have a grudge against the person who decided that things should have 5 wheels and not four.

Every time I try to roll the chair, it goes in a direction that I do not want. I am used to it by now, but it still makes me cringe when my toes get involved. Then there are the 5 wheels that torment people in the hospital when there is an IV stand that is involved. I have not yet found even one of them that rolls in a straight line. GROWL :(

Maybe there is a ’scientific’ reason for using 5 wheels, but just try to make that item roll in only one direction. Bet you can’t. :)

Some Thing Delicate

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

If you are male, you might not want to read past this first line of writing.

I am serious.

Okay, here goes. I am a 55 year old female. Yes, it surprises me, too. In spite of many stupid things that I have done in my past, I actually have managed to survive to this point. I have heard of an old saying that the Lord protects fools and idiots. I have done both, and been both. Oh well, that is life at its most true. On TV all the time I see ads for vaginal dryness. Guys reading this now understand why I thought they might want to look elsewhere. :)

With all of the pains that I have in my life, that is one thing that I have never been afflicted with. I can understand how this can cause misery for the person who has it. I do not however suffer from this, and I do thank God for His mercy. There are so many things that can get a person down. I am just happy to find one less on my little pathway through life.

Of course with a nick name of Two Ton Tilly, it is obvious that I am not so little after all. :)

Rings?

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Not all that long ago, I decided that I wanted to stop wearing my family heritage wedding ring. It is in the style of antique lace with a miners cut diamond in it. I say heritage family ring because it came from my grandma, who got it from HER grandma. Or in other words when it was made originally, the lace design was brand new and not yet antique. I never had any engagement rings to wear, but that didn’t seem to matter.

I thought that I had found a bargain to try something for about 7 dollars, I know, I know, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I just wanted to wear a ring as a way to announce to the public that I am married after all. It does bother me when I see people who I know personally are married and they do not wear a ring to let others know. I am very proud to have my husband and am not shy about telling people about it.

Those bargain rings that I got looked great. Until one of the bands started to chip off the plating. I found out that it was made of bronze underneath, how cool is that? I think that it gives the ring a more unique kind of look, now so that I finished removing the plate on it. The other ring still looks good. Am I weird or not? Don’t care, as long as no one runs away screaming, I’m okay. :)

It’s Almost Gone :)

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Yes, I am wanting to smile. The coughing that has made my life so miserable is almost gone. All I have to do is avoid any smokers for a while and I will finally be finished. I have noticed that any type of smoke will cause a tickle to trigger a new bout of coughing.

I have gotten so frustrated with the coughing, that I have been using medicine that is not approved for someone with Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and what not. At least it has been effective in helping me deal with the nasty. There are so many types of cold and flue medicine out there that sometimes it is hard to make an educated choice about what to use when it is needed. Oh, for the day when I will no longer need to drink something that is making a mockery of the taste of cherry. I like cherries after all, but what has been described as cherry flavor in liquid medicines is nothing but a poorly disguised flavor additive. Licorice at least does work to disguise the tastes of some medicines. Oh well, Land Of No Cough - here I come, at last. :)

Tired of Coughing

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I know, I am whining again. At least I can breathe right now. Where we live in Texas, the weather is going back and forth between reasonable and cold. Up north, they have snow of all things. I remember that from childhood in Missouri. Don’t miss it much, though.

I would like to take a vacation from this coughing mess. Maybe a choice of Vegas vacations, or maybe a vacation in Florida. Let someone else do the cooking, the clean-up, the vacuuming. Wait a minute, I don’t vacuum right now anyway. Don’t miss the sound of it either. Either way, a vacation would be nice to let someone else do the waiting, and all of the other stuff that comes with life. Could be worse though couldn’t it? At least I am alive and able to gripe about it. Meanwhile, life goes on as usual.

I Have A Camera

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I now have a digital camera. I have absolutely no idea who to use it at all. I am not even sure that there is enough memory available in my computer to load the program comes with it. OY VEY.

It could be worse, though. I shall NOT name the ways it could be worse. When we are both completely over this nasty case of flu that we have both suffered through, I will get brave and try to experiment with it. Who knows, I might even be able to make shots that I would not be ashamed of showing to others. One of these days, I might even show some of those pictures here on my blog. :)
