Light bulbs

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Welcome back!

Well, all that I can say is the light bulb in the living room finally gave up the ghost.

Of course the light in the bathroom had to go, too. The bathroom light fixtures that we have do not make it easy to replace any type of light bulb.

Of course that is especially true since we live in an apartment complex that is supposed to be for seniors and handicapped. You’d think that the designers would have thought about that from the first.

No one ever said that designers were logical though. Have you heard the expression - ERGONOMICALLY DESIGNED? Designed my foot. A woman’s size eleven foot might give some of those designers a better idea of what to do with some of the things that I’ve seen. Of course, that is another blog.

‘Spare’ time

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Well, for the first time in 2 years, we actually have a spare tire that might live up to its name.

I spent the better part of the day running around, calling around, and finally finding a tire that was bought. I almost feel as if one of my nieces gave me some baby announcements. I know it might sound silly to get excited about such a thing as a spare tire, but when you haven’t had one for a while, it is exciting.

Too many times we have had to go 20 miles somewhere and went without having a spare, or even a jack. Well, spare it is and jack is in the back. Me happy. :)

I don’t like it

Monday, April 26th, 2010

When mom fell last Friday(April 23), I asked her to go to the ER and get herself checked out.

She refused. Now she has told me that her therapist thinks she has a fractured hip. Again, I asked her to consider going to the hospital and getting it checked out. Again she has refused.

She said that she would let us take her to the doctor Tuesday. I am not sure if she will carry through with that or not.

I guess that now you realize why I do not like it. I never knew that she was so stubborn.

Now what? I do not know.

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Mom told us that she has paid for her funeral. She didn’t say anything about life insurance, and I don’t care about that. I just wish that she would not fall and get hurt.

Each time this happens, it scares the begeebers out of me and my husband. I do not think that she realizes just how concerned we are about this happening. She keeps trying to make light of it and sound like she is NOT concerned.

That does not ease our minds however. We care. Yes, she can be stubborn; yes there are times that she can make people mad; THOSE things are not as important as making sure that she is safe.

Again, a fall

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

I am really concerned for my mother-in-law. She fell again today.

We got a call from the special alarm service. She wears one of those button alarms around her neck (Thank God), and had to call for help to get up again. She had spent over an hour trying to get up and waited to call.

When she finally figured out that she could not do it by herself, she pushed the button. Thank God that this service does work.

She told us that she had on a pair of socks and that her foot slipped when she was in the kitchen. We found her in the living room. She evidently scooted on her rump to make sure the door was unlocked for someone to get in. Scary.

He’s lost weight

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

I have good news.

My husband has managed to lose weight. Since he does have some heart trouble, and Diabetes, this is great news. He had gotten as high as 340lbs which is very bad. He is now down less than 300.

I just wish that I could lose some weight like that. My bones could use the rest. He didn’t take any diet pills, nuphedragen, ephedrine, or any of the others. I don’t know if I will need to take something. I am not able to exercise. That however, is another story, and another article.

Just wonderful - not

Monday, April 19th, 2010

My chin was itching, I scratched it.

Just wonderful, I had a zit. It has been so long since that happened that it caught me off guard. I do not even have any zit medicine at home right now. I can’t even remember what some of the names are -acnepril, clearasil, zits begone…whatever.

Since I was sitting in our vehicle (remember the running?), I didn’t even have the right type of mirror or supplies handy. I hope that it will disappear now and LEAVE ME ALONE. I do not need this on top of everything else.

Sorry, I sound grumpy. That’s another story.

Still Running

Monday, April 19th, 2010

After the past 2 weeks that we’ve had, we are still running.

I feel the need to get some sleep. With the medicine that I take, my choice of how is limited. Maybe some herbal sleeping pills might help. I don’t know. It all depends on whether or not they will interfere with the current meds that I’m on.

All that I can hope for it that the running will slow down, and we will get the chance to rest for a while.

OK, here’s what’s happened

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

This is what has happened so far these past two weeks:

One - our neighbor ended up in the ER and then needed someone to come in and talk to him so the doctor would know that he was acting normal. Evidently he was in such pain that he didn’t/couldn’t give much information. He was normal and explained to the doctor why he didn’t talk much.

Two - our mom fell in her apartment, hit her head and scared the begeebers out of her housekeeper. CT scans, Xrays later, she went home. She was okay.

Three - my husband had an infection in his arm that looked as if it was growing. He had played with one of our cats and had gotten a slight scratch when she had gently chewed on his arm. He is a Diabetic, has heart trouble and other stuff so that infection was a definite RED FLAG that called for immediate attention from medical personnel. He got some antibiotics after a big search for something that he wasn’t allergic to. The medicine/s that is/are usually assigned for infected cat bites, he is allergic to, to such an extent that they endanger his life.

Four - neighbor ended up in the ambulance and needed a ride home afterwards.

Five - mom was sitting in her walker as I pushed her towards her apartment. When she got the walker, we were both told that it could be used that way by her and anyone with her. This was said by the person who sold it to her. We didn’t understand why Medicare refused to reimburse her for it. We learned why that was, it collapsed when we got to the mat in front of her door. She went down backwards, hit her head on the cement threshold, got very scared, scared the begeebers out of me, her son, and the poor housekeeper, again. Both my husband and myself had to stay with her all night and wake her up every 2 hours since the back of her head was involved, just in case of further symptoms. She got through the night safely, but she was told that she needed to make an appointment to see her regular doctor because of a suspicious lump inside her head, behind her sinuses, that was found. We still do not know what it is. We will find out on Tuesday.

THAT is what has been going on for the last two weeks. EEEEK

The people in the ER actually recognized us and asked why we were there again the last 3 times.

ER again

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Well, we ended up making the visit to the ER again.

Mom was sitting in her walker, I was pushing her into her apartment. The walker collapsed! She went down and hit her head on the threshold. The 911 operator said not to move her and wait for the paramedics to take care of moving her. I do not think even outdoor cushions would have helped.

I do not think that I have ever been so scared before. I almost landed on top of her. I weigh too much to land on a lady that is in her late 70’s. She went to the ER, they did some tests and Xrays on her. They said that she would be okay and sent her home. There was one addition to that - we had to wake her up every 2 hours and make sure that she was okay.

Compared to what could have happened, that was very mild. She laughs about it now. I can’t yet laugh.
