Spirometer

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Welcome back!

Yes, I did spell that correctly. The word spirometer stands for a medical device that is used for those with breathing problems like COPD. It somehow measures your breath and with associated tests the doctor can tell about what your lung power is like.

I have seen some of the things used for testing sleep apnea, even though I had no idea what the different things did. It is amazing what medical science can come up with to take care of humans. I saw an ad in the waiting room while mom waited for her doctor to see her. Some magazines had pictures, some recipes, some were nothing but words, but this one word caught my attention. I at first wondered if I was reading it correctly. I was, but I still do not quite understand what it was that I was reading about. Of course, I am not a doctor, just nosy after all. :)

It’s Hot

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Just came back from mom going to the doctor for her yearly check-up. So far, everything is okay. (sort of) The temperature outside is definitely telling of summer.

She has lost some more weight. One of her feet is slightly swollen, and her foot has a sore on it that she has had ongoing for 10 years. Even the best acne treatments won’t help it. Ten years ago, she pulled off a wart. It has not yet healed correctly.

They did some blood tests to check out if she is needing a shot to correct her anemia, and she will find out the results later on in the week. She did end up getting the shot, but the rest we do not yet know.

On the way to the doctor, I am sweating greatly, she is hiding in her jacket and trying to hide from the wind. Talk about opposites! She gets cold very easy, I have always gotten hot too easy. The only time that did not happen was when I was anemic because of an old health problem. Well, at least she has her own apartment. We couldn’t live together since I would constantly be roasting in her dwelling. Even her son (my husband) gets too hot in her place. Oh well, we can stand it for small amounts of time when we visit.

Remember the mention of an overdraft?

I DOOD IT. Did I mention that I have been taking a new medicine? Well, that will only go so far. It won’t bring back the money lost from an overdraft. That $35.00 might as well be locked in solid steel metal buildings with walls 3 feet thick. It ain’t coming back to me any time soon.

I do believe that I am getting more used to the new medicine, but not soon enough. Slurred speech, slow to awaken each morning, groggy thinking.

The only part that is not a drawback is the absence of pain. I do NOT want that back any time soon.

BOUNCE !

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

EEEEEK !

Just checked out my primary checking account. BOUNCE ! What happened?

I have no idea. Since it is Saturday, I will have to wait until Monday to find out what went wrong. So far, every time this has happened, it has been me except for one time. An operator helped me get back some of the over limit money.

This time, I am not so sure. I have been taking that new medicine after all. More later.

Friend stopped by

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

A friend stopped by just now and was frustrated that he ran out of money for cigarettes. I have no idea if electronic cigarettes would help him or not. I guess it all depends on how much they cost.

He was working outside today and when he took a break, he met someone new. A fox kit stopped by and watched him. He sat down and watched right back. He tried to get the kit to get close, but it didn’t. They sat that way and watched each other for several minutes. Long enough to really study him and note that its chest was slightly red and the rest of it was kind of gray. The smile on our friend’s face when he told us about it was really amazing.

How often do we get a chance to study real wild critters without an interruption? :)

Well…zzzzzzzzzzz

We need a new mattress.

The one that we are using right now has some serious trouble with it. It has a broken edge in the box spring, right on my husband’s side of the bed. We have a board under it, but the board sometimes moves when we toss and turn at night.

He has awakened on the floor sometimes, and that is a very rude awakening for him. Me, too, for he hollers when he lands. The mattress top is higher than usual to make it easier to get in and out since we both have arthritis and lots of aches and pains.

We will get back on this later.

Games 10

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Found another new game. WARNING, this game is very addictive.

It is sponsored by the web site Fupa.com. I have played this thing until my eyes go blurry.

I try to walk away and just cannot. Try it, but set the alarm to remind yourself to do something else. I forgot to eat, also. :)

Planning

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

One of the things that has kept us so busy is a rally that is being planned for August of this year.

We have been trying to line up people to come and talk, shelter, time, food, and other things. We recently got the idea of shelter taken care of. We order and received a really big tent that can be assembled to be 24 feet by 20 feet. It came along with tie-downs, stakes and everything. I thought that we had received some industrial equipment by the weight of the carton that it came in.

Think of what the word MONOLITH brings to mind. We were happy that our maintenance supervisor here at the apartments put it on a truck cart to bring it to our apartment. Now we get to put it together. Whew - big.

Later

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Well, the running around has not yet stopped. I am feeling better since I started to take the new pain medication.

Now, if I can learn how to be more awake when I first get up in the morning, everything will be better. I feel like giving my doctor apersonalized gift as a way to say thank you for his help. I realize that he gets paid anyway, but at least he listens when we talk about what is going on, and how we feel.

One of our friends has a problem with continuous pain and has tried a lot of different drugs to get relief. I wonder if she was told about this one?

Right Now

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Right now, mom is on a special program where she has help for her house keeping and other stuff. That is wonderful, for she is not as strong as she used to be.

She also has a nurse come in and check up on her with her blood pressure and her blood sugar. This medical assistance program she is on is through the state and it has turned out to be a blessing. Without this extra help, both my husband and myself would be worried all of the time about he fragile condition and how she would need help for every day things. I hadn’t realized just how much needs to happen when someone gets older.
