Lighter Reading

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Welcome back!

My previous article was rather heavy, expecially concerning the title content.

Here is something of a lighter nature. Zoo Born Animals are something that can brighten a day. The different critters all over the world come in such a different array of sizes, shapes, colors, types, and species; it can sometimes be difficult to think on all that is contained on the face of the earth.

If you want something that can be light hearted, and cheery, check out this website that I have emntioned below. :)

Funny Talk

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Have you ever been in a conversation, said something, and then realized that it really sounded bad or weird? If you haven’t done this, then you must not talk much at all.

Just yesterday I found myself saying.” I can’t get on the back of the couch, but you can.” Now that might seem like a strange thing to say since the title of this blog lets you know that I am not skinny. My cat wanted me to empty a chair that she has claimed and the only place to put the stuff was MY chair. She of course talked back. Don’t tell me that animals do not alk back, it happens all the time. Frontline news, animals also talk back, just like kids do. I have even heard the other cat we have mutter under her breath as she walks away from being told off about something. Kitty cat cussing would you believe. Amazing.

Hey, that is for the other cat !

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Yes, I have said that many times. Sometimes, pets can be just like kids in that they do not want to share toys, plates, people, pillows…..the list goes on.

Just yesterday, I found myself saying the title phrase to our youngest cat. She is 3, the older (much smaller) cat is 6, and very jealous. Well, I had put out some food for the both of them and found one eating some from both sides. I guess she was putting her mark on both. The other cat was asleep and didn’t see this happening.

With cats, dogs, what ever type of pet, you have some of the same kinks that can be found with siblings, but charges for going to college, though. At times, it can be hilarious.

I have Grass

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

No, I did not say that I have gas, I have grass. It is not marijuana either. It is ordinary grass that might be found on a lawn, golf course, pasture, whatever.

Why do I have grass? Good question, even if I made it up myself. We have 2 cats. Cats like to clean themselves and sometimes get hairballs. Grass or some hairball remedies help the animals to eliminate the hairballs so no harm can be caused.

I have, in the past, grown some grass in little containers in the house. Handy, but the grass only lasts a little while. What I do when the grass is growing outside is simply go out and pick some for the cats. I have tried hairball medicine and have gotten tired of being clawed because the furry person being fed the hairball medicine does NOT like the taste. At least the grass can be sprinkled on top of the food, it gets eaten, and the hairball gets eliminated. In the past we have had cats who liked the taste of the hairball medicine, but the ones we have now - NO WAY. So, to avoid claws, pain, scars and all that sort of stuff, I pick grass. It works, there is no pain involved thankfully. All I have to do is get to it before the mowers come by. :)

Chew, Chew, Nip, Nip

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

It might be a strange way to title an article, but it is true.

The little cat that we have knick-named “Internet Kitty’ likes to tuck my husband in at night and when he takes a nap. She will lead him to the bedroom, and wait for him to get ready for bed. When he is finally in bed and ticked up, she will proceed to ‘tuck’ him in herself.

She tugs on the blankets at his toes and pulls upward. Then she walks up him and makes sure the blankets are up near his neck. After that she will go back to his feet and nip at his feet, so he will make room for her. This is a routine that has been going on for a few years now.

The only problem with that is, she will also nip his toes for him to wake up and play. :)

Car Repairs

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Well, something new has happened. Our van might need a new wheel bearing on the front tire, and our station wagon needs a new serpentine belt.

Oh joy of joys. That was sarcasm folks.

We have ways to get around, but I really like the idea that we do not have to ask for a ride. At lest we didn’t need to for a while. The van has a flat tire on top of it all. If we fix the flat, we might be able to drive it a little, and slowly, until the car is fixed. Meanwhile, we wait for the monthly money to come in so we can get the car going again. It seems like if it wasn’t one thing, it would be something else. I know that life shouldn’t be one breakdown after another, but that is something that does not show up often.

I will not let it get me down, we have been in worse situations. We at least have a good place to live, friends that can help us, family that loves us, and 2 cats that show their love every day. We are not alone.

We live in a country that medical care available, food available, and transportation available. That is more than some have around. So, while life might get frustrating, it is life. It can change. We have hope. Meanwhile, I will grab one of our cats, hug and love in her, listen to her purr out of my good ear (that hasn’t gone quiet from this flue stuff), and thank God for what we do have. :)

Horses

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I love critters. They come in all sizes and shapes. Some are very graceful, some are very klutzy like Dodo or Goony birds.

Some modern up-to-date police departments use horses. Horses can be very graceful. If you watch them when they run, it can be poetry in motion, or very dynamic. Of course with that thought in mind I also wonder where those police departments get all of their horse supplies. You know, the saddles, tack, horse shoes, etc.

In New York, they have mounted policemen for the park areas. In New Orleans, they have mounted policemen for riot control. Lets face it a ton of horse flesh is rather impressive isn’t it? I have seen, in comedies, the horse with a sway back. I have seen the small ponies that are used for kiddy rides. Horses come in all sizes. I even stood next to a Clydesdale when it decided to stomp its hoof. The concrete shuddered. Made me glad that the horse itself was friendly. I am not saying that I do not like cars, but there is something about a horse that cannot be replaced with a car.

Goodbye to a Friend

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Today my husband and I lost another friend. She had fought and won against colon cancer. She loved animals of all sorts. When she would find homeless animals, she would find them homes where they would be loved and cared for. She managed to find homes for many helpless animals with many lonely, loving people. She gave us our white cat that has adopted us and our older cat as family. This kitty’s name is Samantha.

Our friend’s name was Linda Frick. She will be greatly missed. She died today approximately around 3:30 pm. I do not know what it is that killed her, but her family does need prayer. We only knew her for a few months, but in that time she proved to be a very special person.

Raccoons

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Raccoons can be very nosy critters. They can also be very amusing. We used to live in a place where the raccoons would come in and visit us in the house. The house was old and had a number of holes in the floor. The raccoons would come in and help themselves to the dog food that we would put in an old frying pan.

When a bunch of them would gather around it there would be so much snorting and grunting, I thought that they sounded remarkably like a pack of pigs at the feeding trough. One day my husband and I watched one raccoon washing its feet in an old butter tub that we used for water for them. It sat on the side and scrubbed its feet down in the tub. When it got done it made the mistake of sitting up. The next thing that we knew, the tub flipped over and dumped all of the water all over the coon. It grumbled, griped and snorted while my husband and I laughed ourselves silly at its antics.

Kitties

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Since my previous post was serious, I decided to let out something that is not serious at all.

My sister knows that I love to see critters, games, food (as if my nick name didn’t give that away), and science articles. Well she sent me a site that has some very cute kittens, and one very smiling cat. Since I have 2 cats myself, I do know when a cat is smiling. So, to cheer up those who want something to grin about, I have put in a link to the site. I haven’t checked out the other pages to see other pictures, but i do believe they are there. I will check them out after I get done here.

On TV the politicians are blaming one political party or another, the fat cat executives in the financial places are stuffing their pockets while they can, while the rest of us just wait to see what will happen next. So here again is a link to something cheerful. :)
