TV Stand

We have a tv stand that is more than just a place for the TV.

It is piled, and I mean PILED with all sorts of things. Videos, boxes, magazines, and all sorts of other stuff are now located on the stand. One big box is filled with sewing thread, Another big box is filled with videos. On the bottom of the stand is a hodge-podge of various things. We happen to be pilers in this apartment. If a spot is bare, it will get something piled on it.

We do not have any obvious organization to these things, they are there. Any decorating for the holidays is only done out side on the front porch. I mentioned its decoration earlier.

Anyway, our entertainment center does more for storage, than just entertaining. The tv is visible, the VCR, and DVD players are available. However, no bare spot is available for use. If I thought that i could get away with it, I would put up Christmas decorations in the house, too. Our cats of course would appreciate something else to play with. They even get onto the bottom shelf of the stand, or entertainment center and find a place to hide.

Television

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

These days all we hear about is the coming change to tv everywhere. The digital change is coming, the digital change is coming, the sky is falling. OY VEY.

If people do not know about it by now, they must not watch tv at all. We have the converter box. The signal is not all that however. When we first tried it out, w got 15 stations. The picture kept breaking up and freezing, so we disconnected it and went back to the regular way of watching tv. Our favorite station was down for 2 WEEKS, so we tried the box again. We only got 3 stations this time, what gives? I heard that the digital change was supposed to be good - I can’t see it myself. ;/

Games 5

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Here I go again. I am apparently hooked on games on the computer. This one called “Splash Back”, is amazingly good fun, if you like to make messes, play in the water and other things.

Making a mess, and not having to clean it up can be very therapeutic for your nerves, and it also helps me to think. Lately there has been a lot going on and this has given me a chance to relax and unwind. Sometimes, I find myself playing for hours not even noticing how the time has passed. What is that old saying?….TRY IT YOU’LL LIKE IT. :)

P.S. Don’t play it until after you go to the bathroom. :}

Time

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Time is something that gets to everyone alive. Whether they keep track of it or not, time will pass and some times people do not keep track of it. Take today for example, when you woke up on the morning, time had changed, the hours specifically had changed because of daylight savings time changing. The computer takes care of itself, so does the VCR and the TV.

The rest of the clocks in the house we need to change when we remember them. We have no Guess watches, most of what we have are the cheap kind that use quartz. My husband cannot wear a wind up watch because of the electricity in his body. He has ruined a lot of watches before when he didn’t realize what the problem was. One watch he gave to a friend. This friend put it on the mantle at his house for 5 years. We were visiting one day when the watch started to work again. A total surprise there, because I had looked at it when the second hand started to move again. Digital watches go totally blank on him and never work again. When he has found watches that do work, the batteries do not last 6 months, they have lasted for up to 3 years instead. Even when he had been in the hospital wearing a heart monitor, the electricity in his body fried several of them until the hospital personnel figured out what was wrong. It was a learning experience for sure. :)

Light

Friday, October 24th, 2008

As I sit here and type, I wish that I had the good light that is over where my brother is. The lighting fixtures in this apartment are very old fashioned. We have had to remove the glass globes that cover the light bulbs so that we are able to reach the fixture to change the bulbs.

One fixture in the living room is so long that the globe would not fit over the type bulb that we have in it. The dining room where the computer is, well, it isn’t very bright. Not that at this time of night I’m very bright myself, I could use a little help when it is this late. It is after ten pm after all. :)

I enjoy the idea of a fan with the ceiling light in the living room, but it shakes so much that I hate to use the fan. If I had the money, I would change out the fixture myself. That’s life. Some things are good, some not so. At least we have a place to live, food to eat, and electricity for the lights that we do have. It is getting late and we have had a busy week, so I guess that I’ll sign off for now and probably dream about light bulbs, too.

E-Mail Headaches

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Well, I have been having interesting times. Something has gone wrong with my e-mail. I try to retrieve it and keep getting the message that there are no new messages in the server.

Sine I am not digitally minded, I have no idea how to fix it. I usually get over 100 e-mails each day and since i haven’t been able to access them, they are probably adding up. One of these days, maybe I’ll find out how to gain access again.

Digital Signage

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

You know how i have mentioned advertising in some of my past articles? Well, I have found that there is something called -digital signage. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but it is a new way to advertise or get your message out to the public. Since I’m not completely digital in my daily life (I do have a cell phone and computer after all), I can’t explain how this works. Thinking on it however, if there is something that will make some ads more interesting, wouldn’t people pay more attention to what they are seeing? Most ads I ignore or forget what they were about as soon as the ad is gone. That would seem to reverse the purpose of the ad in the first place. Making it interesting, would help people to remember it.

Games 3

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Previously I had mentioned laptops. I have since learned that it is one word, not two. Live and learn, oh well.

Now I am going to mention games again. The playstation 3 in particular. It has more than just one game with it, or that goes to it. Sometimes I wonder just how many games there are that are available. I have seen so many on the internet that it is amazing that anyone gets their work done. I imagine that there are literally thousands of types of games to play. I do not know how many are available for the play station, but it has to be a lot. Would you need to have library shelves for them all? Hmmm, it makes me wonder.

Lap Tops

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

I have seen people walking around with those mini computers under their arms. You know, lap tops? I wonder how much memory they have in them, how much they cost, what is their performance like, all sorts of questions.

My sister now has a lap top ( is that one word or two?), and uses a cooling pad when using it. I do not know what brand it is, a Sony Vaio, or some other brand. I know which type of computer she does not want. It will not interchange with other computers, and has a different type of program in it. (Won’t say the name.) One of these days, I might ask her. I just know that it has proven to be very convenient for her when she needs to stay in one place, and yet needs to be comfortable.

Who knows, maybe one day I will be able to get a laptop for myself, or not. Right now, I’m happy. :)

Pictures

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

have you ever seen the pictures that some sites post? Some of them are beautiful. Some are no so. There are times that I wonder how many of them are taken by digital cameras?

We have some standard cameras in our house. You know, the type that you take out the film and then send it in to be developed and pictures made? Not like the Polaroid type of pictures. I have never used the new type of camera that is digital. I wonder sometimes just how easy or hard it is to use. How do you develop the pictures? Remember, I am still analog in some ways. I am still learning every day.
