Goodbye to a Friend

Today my husband and I lost another friend. She had fought and won against colon cancer. She loved animals of all sorts. When she would find homeless animals, she would find them homes where they would be loved and cared for. She managed to find homes for many helpless animals with many lonely, loving people. She gave us our white cat that has adopted us and our older cat as family. This kitty’s name is Samantha.

Our friend’s name was Linda Frick. She will be greatly missed. She died today approximately around 3:30 pm. I do not know what it is that killed her, but her family does need prayer. We only knew her for a few months, but in that time she proved to be a very special person.

I’m Simmering

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

I guess that sounds better than saying that I am stewing. My sister lives in Arkansas. It has been called the ‘arm pit’ in the US concerning health care. I have no idea what the life insurance rates are for people that live there, but they must be high.

She is stuck AT HOME with a severe leg infection. The doctor who saw her stated that he cannot check her into the hospital because the medicine that he wanted to give her for the cellulitis, she is allergic to. I know there is more than just one type of injectable anti-biotic available.

I do not understand all of the road blocks that she has had to face there. I just do not understand.

Projects - Arts & Crafts

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I love to do arts and crafts of many different types. I have created beaded bracelets, dream catchers (only cause I think they look neat), afghans, toboggans, necklaces, shirts, skirts, quilts, and other assorted folderol, too.

The reason why I am bringing this up is because Scott & White Hospital which is near by in Temple, Texas, is also a cancer hospital. A while past I crocheted some toboggans ( aka ski hats) and donated them for the people going through chemotherapy. Chemo will take away that person’s strength, and make them susceptible to getting easily chilled. Well, people going through Dialysis also have that problem.

The costs of those life saving treatments can be very prohibitive to a person’s wallet. It might not be much, but little things can also give someone heart to keep trying and fighting their illness. If you like to make things and then wonder what to do with them, giving to help someone else might add to your enjoyment.

Encouragement

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

I like to read things that encourage people and help them to feel better, yes sometimes I gripe about something, that’s life.

Things that encourage are really wonderful. My sister sent me something that struck me as being very good. An article about a preacher’s son and what he did. His action..well, read the article and you will see what I mean about encouragement.

Learning Experiences

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

We have been learning a lot about funerals and what needs to be done in order to have them. I have decided that when I die, my body should be used for donation or for science or for both. When I am dead I will not care about what is left over.

If our friend had managed to have some finances set back, it could have been different. Any proper financial reporting that could have been done, might have changed things around considerably. We know that he will be buried with honors at the Veterans Cemetery and his grave will be maintained and supervised. I wish that we could have found family members that were left. Sooner or later maybe they will show, and we will be able to tell them what happened.

I’ve Been Gone

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

This past week has been hard. Some parts of it have been good. Our long time friend had been sick in the Hospital. He was dying in the VA Hospice unit near where we live. He had lung cancer that had spread through out his entire body.

His name was James Raymond Moore and he passed away yesterday at 4 am. He had been in a lot of pain. The nurses were really gentle with him and tried to help him to escape the pain. He was having trouble breathing and each breath was a fight for him. I am very sad to loose him but, he is now no longer hurting. He loved the Lord Jesus very much, so I know that he is now in a better place. He has family but we have no idea how to locate them. He had a lot of nick-names: Jesse, Two Moons, Sonny. A half brother called Ronald and a niece called Gail. We are feeling two things right now. Sorrow for his loss, and relief for him that he no longer hurts and is in pain.

I still cry because I miss him, though. However, I wouldn’t want him to continue to suffer.

Hospice Care

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

We were able to see Jess yesterday. We were there for a number of hous. He did not look like the man we are used to seeing anymore.

The VA hospice unit where he is staying is doing what they can to help him be comfortable. Well, as comfortable as is possible when someone is dying. They do not have an abundance of workers to help. They could also use donations of items for the patients to have things to do.

It hurts to see someone that we care about slowly dying, with no way to make them better. Jess goes by a lot of names. Some of his names are nick-names. When it comes right down to it, he is just ‘Bro” to my husband and myself. If you know someone who is in hospice, or you have puzzles, craft items, books, and other things, they could all be used to help ease the time of those who are sick.

If you know someone who needs hospice care, there is an organization that can help.
Hospice Net.org is one such organization.

Remember that people in hospice are still people, with feelings, emotions. They feel pain, get scared, get bored just like we all do.

News About Jess

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

A while back I wrote about some concerns that my husband and I had about our family member/friend Jess.

He is now in the Temple VA. Today he and we found out a lot about what had been going on when he had been in the Dallas VA. First, he had wanted to be in Temple all along. That got side tracked. Second he wanted his belongings. That got ignored.

There are things in process to get everything straightened out and his belongings to him where they belong. He still needs prayers. I am not able to tell everything that had happened, there is a lot of private stuff there. Please continue to pray for him.

Concerned

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

My husband and I are concerned for our brother. He is in the Dallas VA in the TCUB. He has cancer, congestive heart failure, and blood clots. he says that he hasn’t been getting straight answers from any one. He is also concerned that the man he had been renting from was ripping him off.

The man has claimed Sonny’s van and his pets as his own. He claims that Jesse gave him the van, then he claims that he bought it, then he claims that it was traded for a motorcycle, then he claims that it doesn’t run. We can’t get a straight answer from him in any way shape or form. Prayers are needed.

Please pray for: James Moore (aka Jesse Two Moons)

Protection?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Just read another article about those in public service (I should have written public ’service’ instead) abusing those they are supposed to help. When there is a loving family for children to be in, why are the children being forced to be in foster care? Is it not abuse to deny children the love of a family? To me that is abuse. Unnecessary abuse when the kids are obviously loved and wanted. What is with the different agencies that lie to families, to children, and break them apart unnecessarily?

I know of other cases where innocent people were harassed, lied to, had money stolen from them, and were persecuted by the people in a supposed “protective” service agency. Why have so many agencies gotten power hungry. What ever happened to serving the public interests instead of persecuting them?
