Heard About

Welcome back!

Heard about a happening on TV today, actually yesterday, too.

A couple of girls in a small car were driving home from a place that they had visited. They got lost and without meaning to, drove off a boat dock into the water. A police officer was there and rescued them, so they did not drown. If the place used dock ramps, instead of just a slowly lowering concrete ramp, maybe that would not have happened.

As if is, the place now has some warning signs in place and they are thinking of putting in some chains that would have to be removed to stop this from happening anymore. Thank God those girls did not drown.

I don’t like it

Monday, April 26th, 2010

When mom fell last Friday(April 23), I asked her to go to the ER and get herself checked out.

She refused. Now she has told me that her therapist thinks she has a fractured hip. Again, I asked her to consider going to the hospital and getting it checked out. Again she has refused.

She said that she would let us take her to the doctor Tuesday. I am not sure if she will carry through with that or not.

I guess that now you realize why I do not like it. I never knew that she was so stubborn.

Now what? I do not know.

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Mom told us that she has paid for her funeral. She didn’t say anything about life insurance, and I don’t care about that. I just wish that she would not fall and get hurt.

Each time this happens, it scares the begeebers out of me and my husband. I do not think that she realizes just how concerned we are about this happening. She keeps trying to make light of it and sound like she is NOT concerned.

That does not ease our minds however. We care. Yes, she can be stubborn; yes there are times that she can make people mad; THOSE things are not as important as making sure that she is safe.

Again, a fall

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

I am really concerned for my mother-in-law. She fell again today.

We got a call from the special alarm service. She wears one of those button alarms around her neck (Thank God), and had to call for help to get up again. She had spent over an hour trying to get up and waited to call.

When she finally figured out that she could not do it by herself, she pushed the button. Thank God that this service does work.

She told us that she had on a pair of socks and that her foot slipped when she was in the kitchen. We found her in the living room. She evidently scooted on her rump to make sure the door was unlocked for someone to get in. Scary.

ER again

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Well, we ended up making the visit to the ER again.

Mom was sitting in her walker, I was pushing her into her apartment. The walker collapsed! She went down and hit her head on the threshold. The 911 operator said not to move her and wait for the paramedics to take care of moving her. I do not think even outdoor cushions would have helped.

I do not think that I have ever been so scared before. I almost landed on top of her. I weigh too much to land on a lady that is in her late 70’s. She went to the ER, they did some tests and Xrays on her. They said that she would be okay and sent her home. There was one addition to that - we had to wake her up every 2 hours and make sure that she was okay.

Compared to what could have happened, that was very mild. She laughs about it now. I can’t yet laugh.

Thumbs Up for Roomstore

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

I live in Central Texas. An 18 wheeler crashed off of the interstate, across two ditches, across a pond, and a retaining wall. The truck ended up being launched into the air and then crashed into a hotel.

In a nearby Roomstore Outlet in Temple, Texas, the manager asked all of the employees and the residents of the hotel (after evacuation) to come into the store itself in order to stay warm. She did not have to do such a thing, but she did it any way and gave shaken people a chance to be sheltered, comfortable, and warm while the accident officials were examining the scene and the wreck.

This story is on our TV channel TV 10.1. I believe that the Roomstore manager handled this emergency with great elegance and should be commended for her mercy and thoughtfulness. this presents a show of great quality on the part of the manager.

I would not be ashamed to shop there when I need new furniture.
