Special Places

Welcome back!

When was the last time that you went to a special place? I mean one where it is different from the ‘usual’ types of places to stay.

It would be nice to find unique hotels to stay at for vacations. If your neighbors get to be a pain in the tucus, and you do not want to move, it would be nice to have a fun place to get away from the humdrum of everyday life. Of course with us, we have good neighbors. Our home (apt) is comfy (a mess), and it has everything that we like to do hobbies with and of course books and videos - the list goes on.

Let’s face it, there are worse things in life than being comfortable at home. At least we do have hobbies, videos, books, yada, yada, yada.

Furniture

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

My house is full. I have book cases, tables, sofas, chairs, tv stands, entertainments center, computers. I have furniture.

What I need is probably storage or a bigger place to live. I have the feeling that I would end up with even more stuff, though. I guess that I need to learn how to eliminate the unnecessary junk that I have. The furniture that i have works for me and for my husband. The main problem that we have is that we are involved with a lot of different types of hobbies. Different types of arts & crafts, and all of the stuff that goes with it. Maybe we could use more storage cabinets with shelves and drawers. Not sure, maybe we should just try to clean house a little better. I hate cleaning. Shopping is fun. The only trouble with that is spending money, and getting more stuff that needs to be stored and not enough of the right type of furniture to store it in. :)

Now What?

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Maybe I am getting older. I am not able to lose weight very easily. I sometimes eat things that give me diarrhea, and gas. Those things are supposed to be good for me and to help to lose weight, you know lots of veggies do that, At least I do enjoy veggies. I ache all the time from Arthritis, if I have a day without any pain at all, it is very rare. That does get tiring.

Don’t worry, I am too stubborn and pigheaded to give up.

I have had people suggest that I use chop sticks to eat with. The only trouble is that I love chop sticks and can eat faster with them, than with a fork. I have several sets of chop sticks that I use at different times. I also save them when we actually have the money to eat out, take them home and use them in arts and crafts projects. (They make neat crosses.)

There is something that I wonder about, though. There are a lot of diet pills on the market, what is with the names? Leptorexin, Fenfedra, yada, yada, yada. How do they think up those names, why can’t they make them easier to remember or pronounce? Well, any way; my main trouble is that I like food. Most of the people that I know do also. After all what would be the point in making food that doesn’t taste good? I know that not everyone has the option to be picky about what they eat or if they eat, so I shouldn’t complain. I wish that dieting was easier. :)

Projects - Arts & Crafts

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I love to do arts and crafts of many different types. I have created beaded bracelets, dream catchers (only cause I think they look neat), afghans, toboggans, necklaces, shirts, skirts, quilts, and other assorted folderol, too.

The reason why I am bringing this up is because Scott & White Hospital which is near by in Temple, Texas, is also a cancer hospital. A while past I crocheted some toboggans ( aka ski hats) and donated them for the people going through chemotherapy. Chemo will take away that person’s strength, and make them susceptible to getting easily chilled. Well, people going through Dialysis also have that problem.

The costs of those life saving treatments can be very prohibitive to a person’s wallet. It might not be much, but little things can also give someone heart to keep trying and fighting their illness. If you like to make things and then wonder what to do with them, giving to help someone else might add to your enjoyment.

Armor, Mail, and Historical Items

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

When I had lived in Florida, I had worked several places. One place was a machine shop that made so many different types of things that is was amazing.

The man who was hired to inspect the parts to make sure they followed the specifications of the blueprints, was also into medieval apparel. On his spare time - lunch, breaks, after his shift - he would make different things. He made a crossbow from a car leaf spring. He made chain mail - one link at a time. The only thing he had not yet made was a suit of armor. He was a patient man who took great care in the things that he did. He brought his own supplies to make these things. Sometimes the man who owned the factory, would stand and watch him over the man’s shoulder. Think about it…Chain mail is made of thousands of rings that are joined together very closely interlinking to make , basically, metal cloth. I wonder if he ever got around to making his own armor.

Hobbies & Crafts

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I know that I mentioned before that I like to do crafty types of things. What I did not mention is that my husband does also.

He likes to tinker with small stereos, tape players, and headphones. He also likes to make pins, bracelets, and necklaces. He has shown a remarkable skill in drawing out designs with gel pens that have wings and shields that are patriotic in nature. He loves the USA and isn’t ashamed to let others know. He uses gel pens of many different colors: silver, bronze, gold, red, white, and blue.

He would draw out the design, then color it in with the pens. There is one thing that has caused a small problem though. It is hard to find white gel pens. He uses gel pens so that when he coats the items he has made ( he uses clear fingernail polish which dries to plastic afterward) the ink does NOT run. Not being able to find the white gel has made it difficult to continue a favorite hobby. He has found one or two things that he can use as a substitute, but it’s not as easy as with a pen. At least he isn’t giving up on his hobby. I think that his continuing effort is something to be happy about.
