Hey, that is for the other cat !

Welcome back!

Yes, I have said that many times. Sometimes, pets can be just like kids in that they do not want to share toys, plates, people, pillows…..the list goes on.

Just yesterday, I found myself saying the title phrase to our youngest cat. She is 3, the older (much smaller) cat is 6, and very jealous. Well, I had put out some food for the both of them and found one eating some from both sides. I guess she was putting her mark on both. The other cat was asleep and didn’t see this happening.

With cats, dogs, what ever type of pet, you have some of the same kinks that can be found with siblings, but charges for going to college, though. At times, it can be hilarious.

I have Grass

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

No, I did not say that I have gas, I have grass. It is not marijuana either. It is ordinary grass that might be found on a lawn, golf course, pasture, whatever.

Why do I have grass? Good question, even if I made it up myself. We have 2 cats. Cats like to clean themselves and sometimes get hairballs. Grass or some hairball remedies help the animals to eliminate the hairballs so no harm can be caused.

I have, in the past, grown some grass in little containers in the house. Handy, but the grass only lasts a little while. What I do when the grass is growing outside is simply go out and pick some for the cats. I have tried hairball medicine and have gotten tired of being clawed because the furry person being fed the hairball medicine does NOT like the taste. At least the grass can be sprinkled on top of the food, it gets eaten, and the hairball gets eliminated. In the past we have had cats who liked the taste of the hairball medicine, but the ones we have now - NO WAY. So, to avoid claws, pain, scars and all that sort of stuff, I pick grass. It works, there is no pain involved thankfully. All I have to do is get to it before the mowers come by. :)

The Bed Rattles

Friday, March 27th, 2009

No, it is not a rattle snake. My husband said that s he went to bed last night.

That is the type of comment that get strange looks from people. He decided to go to bed early and was making it from the last time that the covers were rumpled up. When he was straightening out everything he noticed a strange sound coming from the bed itself. After he started to check it out, he found one of the cats’ toys all tucked in with everything else.

Evidently one of our cats decided to take the rattle to bed with her. She sometimes likes to carry those rattle balls around in her mouth so she can play with them in the exact place that she wants. What a nice surprise to find. :)

Chew, Chew, Nip, Nip

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

It might be a strange way to title an article, but it is true.

The little cat that we have knick-named “Internet Kitty’ likes to tuck my husband in at night and when he takes a nap. She will lead him to the bedroom, and wait for him to get ready for bed. When he is finally in bed and ticked up, she will proceed to ‘tuck’ him in herself.

She tugs on the blankets at his toes and pulls upward. Then she walks up him and makes sure the blankets are up near his neck. After that she will go back to his feet and nip at his feet, so he will make room for her. This is a routine that has been going on for a few years now.

The only problem with that is, she will also nip his toes for him to wake up and play. :)

TV Stand

Monday, November 24th, 2008

We have a tv stand that is more than just a place for the TV.

It is piled, and I mean PILED with all sorts of things. Videos, boxes, magazines, and all sorts of other stuff are now located on the stand. One big box is filled with sewing thread, Another big box is filled with videos. On the bottom of the stand is a hodge-podge of various things. We happen to be pilers in this apartment. If a spot is bare, it will get something piled on it.

We do not have any obvious organization to these things, they are there. Any decorating for the holidays is only done out side on the front porch. I mentioned its decoration earlier.

Anyway, our entertainment center does more for storage, than just entertaining. The tv is visible, the VCR, and DVD players are available. However, no bare spot is available for use. If I thought that i could get away with it, I would put up Christmas decorations in the house, too. Our cats of course would appreciate something else to play with. They even get onto the bottom shelf of the stand, or entertainment center and find a place to hide.

FLUMP

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I know that I started with an unusual word, but it is the word that describes what happens.

Our oldest kitty has decided that when someone is petting her in a certain area of the house, she will FLUMP unexpectedly. First, we have to be getting ready to go to sleep. Second, we will tell both babies that it is beddy-bye nighty-night time, yes we use a secret code to talk to our cats.

Next, everybody goes into the bedroom. We humans adjust the bedding, with the weight of the cats on the bed of course. They wouldn’t have it any other way. We then pet each baby so they know they are still the rulers in the house. I should have put the world rulers in quotation marks. They each pick the person to say good night to, and this is where the FLUMP comes into play.

When petting each furry person (aka fur-purrson) the petting stroke starts at the nose and goes all the way to the tip of the tail. The oldest cat will then perform her FLUMP. A FLUMP is a fully limp undertaking of a melodramatic plop. AKA F.L.U.M.P. If you stop petting, she will stand up, nose your hand, and when you pet her again - FLUMP. If you ignore her, she will nip or pinch you to get your attention. Did I mention that they think they are the rulers in the house? If we do not perform these services, our toes get chewed on at night. So let the petting services and the FLUMP commence. I guess routine in important to every one in their own way. I will admit that I miss the petting services if I go straight to sleep and don’t take the time out to rub fur. I have my routine, too. :)

Company

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

We live in a small area near the center of our town.some times we have company come by in the mornings. Our cats are not used to the idea of strangers being in the house and at first they would hide and refuse to come out until the others were gone.

They have gradually gotten used to people coming by. Now, they will come out and watch who is there at the time. One of the cats, the big white one will try to get ‘HER’ chair ( kind of like having her throne), and sometimes let one of the visitors rub her on her belly. The other will stay just out of reach and tease the visitor by letting them use their fingertips to scratch her head. When no one is visiting, the white one will sit in the living room window with her head peeping out, and keep watch for any one who comes by. At least neither cat will continue to hide for hours and sulk. :)

Cats

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

We have two cats. They both are in pictures in a way earlier post called “Internet Kitty”.

They have decided that they each ‘own’ one of us. The older of the two -Dipper- a dainty long haired female is about 6 years old now, she has claimed my husband. She weighs about 3 pounds.

The younger cat - Sami- is a short hair cat about 3 years old, has claimed me. She weighs about 9 pounds. They are so much fun sometimes it is amazing what antics that they will get up to. The latest has been almost a contest to see who can play with an invading cricket the longest.

The two cats will walk through the house side by side almost like one is the shadow of the other. The youngest one has never been fixed, yet still acts like a kitten is a lot of ways. The younger cat almost acts like a momma. Watching the two together can be fun.

Attack of the Cricket

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Yesterday I was attacked by a cricket. Well, at least that is what my cat thought. She was nosing around my legs as I was posting an article on this site. Kept petting her and she kept hanging around my legs. Then her whiskers started to tickle - a lot.

I scooted my seat backwards and found a cricket on the floor. Sami our big white kitty pounced and attacked. She kept driving the cricket away from my legs every time it jumped in my direction. As long as it moved away, no pouncing. When it moved towards me, pouncing. I guess Sami was being a guard kitty. After all must protect against the attack cricket. :)

Just a Pinch

Friday, July 25th, 2008

I have been pinched, again.

It is nothing serious, just my cat demanding my attention. My husband and I were getting ready to go to sleep, I was putting my sleeping mask on, had my hands in the air, and the next thing I knew I was being pinched on the underside of my arm. Immediately after this happened, she took off like a streak with her tail held high.

tShe came back later and tried to sneak up on me, but I caught her and mushed on her for my type of revenge. Mushing involves rubbing the cat all over and ruffling her fur. Of course this revenge doesn’t work very well because she is purring the whole time.

When she has wanted my husband’s attention, she has been known to nip him on his rump. She is small with long soft fur on her. I included her picture on an earlier post called “Internet Kitty“. She still likes to sit on top of the computer while it’s on. I keep post-it notes all over the surrounding part of the monitor case. She doesn’t like these things and will use her teeth to pick off the ‘offending’ note and then drop it on the table. She has her opinions and is not afraid to let them be known. :)
