Had an emergency

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Welcome back!

We had an emergency tonight and I got some things on the blog messed up.

One of our very close neighbors got taken to the emergency room tonight. When they were done with him after some breathing treatments and shot and meds, he was released. Well, eleven at night is not the time to need a ride from one town to another.

I took off from the computer screen to get him and when I got back, I fouled up something that I was writing. Oh well………………..DELETE sure does come in handy sometimes. I guess that electronics can be more forgiving than paper at times. :)

Who do you talk to?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Maybe I should have said, how do you talk to people?

On the phone is a popular way to talk, in person is also good. I also talk online to my brother-in-laws, yes, more than one that is. I know that some will need live chat software for their laptops, others will need new programs for their desk tops. Do people still use desktop computers?

I do, do not have any laptop. Of course, I have learned how to do a lot of talking with only my nouth. I do sometimes get into trouble though. At least when I type it on the keyboard, I have time to think before typing and can delete.

You do not want to know how many times I delete things because of typos. That is another story. :)

Still here

Friday, September 25th, 2009

I am still here. I just went through some interesting things with my computer. I learn a little each day. Hopefully the computer survives what I do to it.

Some programs….well, lets just say that my experimenting sometimes has unfortunate results. I won’t dance around about it, although Dansko shoes should help even me to dance, I messed up. Erased somethings that I did not want to have erased.

With the help of my brother-in-law Ed, things are basically back to good operating condition. Here’s hoping that I learn and don’t mess up again. :)

I Have A Problem

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Yes, I do have a problem. My computer is slowing down. It is supposed to have a 10GB hard drive. However, the memory availability is down to only 4%. OWWWW

Something is absorbing the memory and I do not know how to get the unnecessary out, or what it is. I know that I can get a different hard drive that will have more memory, I just do not want to lose the items that I have stored right now.

Picky aren’t I? :)

I know that there are things that can be done. Like getting a ddr3, using memory sticks, new drive…..yada, yada, yada. I just do not know how to do these things. Anybody have any advice out there in internet land? It might help this basically analog person keep blogging. HELP!

I’ve been playing

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

I have been playing around with my computer. When it was given to me, I started to learn how to use it. Never had a handbook to know what to do.

Just learned about defragging the computer to help with removal of unnecessary stuff. I’ve been doing the disc cleanup and have C Cleaner. It makes me think that maybe some industrial supplies might come in handy to get done what I need done.

The only trouble is that I do not know which files and programs are not needed and which ones are. ??? How do I find that out? Oh yeah, also found out about using the refresh in the system tools. Very handy since I accidentally wiped out the games that came with the computer. :)

Computer Stuff

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Have you ever noticed how confusing that computer stuff can be? There is the tower, the keyboard, the mouse, the monitor, external hard drive, the software, the wires, the…….OY VEY.

I am still learning here. I still believe in the old process of hard copy. Now people have hard drives. I remember when….wait a minute! That is what my grandma used to say. Am I showing my age here? I think so. I still like to have things on paper for just in case. You have heard of old ‘Justin’ haven’t you? Just in case the electric goes out, just in case water gets on something, just in case - well you must get the idea by now. I have seen how some new cars have a keyboard on their sides in order for the person to get access to the car. What does the person do when the car is covered with ICE? I dunno, computers still have their uses, other wise I could not be doing this right now could I?

Something

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

There are times that I do not seem to have anything to write, but I want to put something down. Some times my thoughts are scattered and hard to focus.

Trying to make logical statements, when I am human and most definitely not a logical being can sometimes by interesting. Some times my fingers seem to dance on the keyboard and my thoughts flow out without any trouble. Then there are the other times. OY VEY ! I know that logic is possible after all humans did design computers. Please ignore the snickers that you hear in the background. I realize that computers do have their problems. i suffered through the bad experience of having a worm get into my computer. It finally told me that I did not have permission to turn it off ! Of all the nerve. That is where the power button came in handy. Or I could have unplugged it. Well, any way logic is possible.

I have my moments. doesn’t everyone? I just wish that ‘my moments’ would come more often. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Computers

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I have a table top computer and have been having a great time surfing the internet and blogging. I now have an anti-virus program to keep out nasty surprises designed to make things miserable.

The only thing that bugs me now is memory. I do a disk clean-up every so often, and that does happen to help. I wish that I knew which things I could eliminate from the computer memory storage, but as I have mentioned before, I am more analog than digitally inclined.

I have learned to do some things, but can’t seem to figure out others. I am not giving up, though. The way I figure it if I keep trying, sooner or later some understanding will seep into my mind and I will understand a little better.

I’m not awake, yet

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Or in other words (computerese) - The computer has been booted, but some of the programs are not running as of yet.:)

Some mornings I get out of bed, and it is a while before I am awake enough to realize that I’m not in bed anymore. I’m not sleep walking, though. Stumbling, muttering, bleary eyed - oh yeah. But, not sleep walking.

I can’t be the only one having that problem sometimes. I have heard my husband stumbling around in the bedroom, so I know that he understands what I’m talking about. Coffee helps him to “boot up” his brain. I have used cheese. Of course, I like cheese, so I use almost any excuse that I can. I used to think that I should have been born with big ears. (You know, like Mickey Mouse). At least then I could have earned money in the circus, snicker…

I’m awake, now, and I think all of the programs have started up and are running. I just wish that I knew what ‘programs’ those are. ;)

Computer in Never-Never Land

Monday, July 7th, 2008

This is written using our second computer. The first one got zapped by a destructive worm.

We were blessed, when we first got this one it had an anti-virus program already installed. I put it to use most definitely. Unfortunately two days ago the trial run of that program came to an end. Never-never land, here we come. EEK :( I was not a happy camper.)

Well, we have a friend who gladly told me about a site called Download.com. I immediately put it to use and got another anti-virus program, computer saved . Camper happy again. I am still learning about the new anti-virus program; however, I feel safer when I go on the internet, which is several times daily. (It is fun after all) I know that there are idiots out there who make it their life’s dream to break someone’s computer with their little nasties. Sometimes, I think that they need their heads examined, or de-programed since we , I mean I , am talking about computer stuff here. Notice how techno that comment is? Snicker…
