Computer Stuff

Welcome back!

Have you ever noticed how confusing that computer stuff can be? There is the tower, the keyboard, the mouse, the monitor, external hard drive, the software, the wires, the…….OY VEY.

I am still learning here. I still believe in the old process of hard copy. Now people have hard drives. I remember when….wait a minute! That is what my grandma used to say. Am I showing my age here? I think so. I still like to have things on paper for just in case. You have heard of old ‘Justin’ haven’t you? Just in case the electric goes out, just in case water gets on something, just in case - well you must get the idea by now. I have seen how some new cars have a keyboard on their sides in order for the person to get access to the car. What does the person do when the car is covered with ICE? I dunno, computers still have their uses, other wise I could not be doing this right now could I?

Sink or Swim

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Have you ever heard of the old saying “sink or swim”? I have and it can leave you with an uncomfortable feeling if you are the one being told that.

It used to be that kids were taught to swim by being dropped into water to , literally, sink or swim. Then people got the idea that if the kid sinks, the kid might actually drown. So people started to teach kids slowly how to swim in a safe manner that would make sure that they were safe. I was one of the blessed ones that was taught to swim slowly and safely. Of course now, I would float very easily without much effort. Fat does float doesn’t it? :)

Some things have gotten better in life. Swimming lessons, medicine, flight, electronics, those are only a few things that have gotten better. Plumbing has gotten better when you think of sinks, bathtubs, toilets (thank God for them), washing machines, and dishwashers. Now when I think of sink or swim, I think of a sink, or going to the beach and the surf in order to swim. Life can be good.

Digital Signage

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

You know how i have mentioned advertising in some of my past articles? Well, I have found that there is something called -digital signage. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but it is a new way to advertise or get your message out to the public. Since I’m not completely digital in my daily life (I do have a cell phone and computer after all), I can’t explain how this works. Thinking on it however, if there is something that will make some ads more interesting, wouldn’t people pay more attention to what they are seeing? Most ads I ignore or forget what they were about as soon as the ad is gone. That would seem to reverse the purpose of the ad in the first place. Making it interesting, would help people to remember it.

Computer Speakers

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Well, I just spent the last couple of hours changing out my computer speakers. YUK

I know, I know, that is not a very specific description . Well, it fits how I felt. The speaker that I had before would give a little sound. Just enough to let me know that there was some sort of sound with what ever I was looking at. Tried to get something better, but kept having problems. I took apart a different speaker that had been used on a Mac computer, it had special hook-ups that were computer specific. One of the speakers could be used by itself on my husband’s computer. The other one had the special connection.

I removed the extra chip board that had been in there and made it into a plain speaker. The only trouble was that the speaker itself was really weird looking. Instead of having the regular back, it had a really big metal covering. I had no idea what is inside, so I changed the individual speaker itself out to a different one. I liked the speaker box because it would fit nicely on the top of my tower. I finally got it all changed. I have some sound. Not as much as I would like, but my computer is not as quiet as before. I would call that success. Don’t you think so?

A mind is a terrible thing to waste

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Do you remember hearing that on the TV? I believe it is true. A mind IS a terrible thing to waste. It doesn’t matter how old the person is either.

I know there are things out there to improve the system memory in computers. I wish that there were things that you could get to improve the memory in a person. There are times that I find I have forgotten something important, and of course the unimportant things, too. It almost drives me bonkers. It seems like the unimportant things can cause more distress than the very important things. The very important things will be written down, after all. It’s the unimportant things that don’t get written down. UG, that is all I can say about that.

I walked up to a friend one day and tried to tell her that she was wearing a pretty outfit. The word I was looking for…wasn’t there. The word was dress. I need more memory !! I’m not talking about my computer here.

Computers

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I have a table top computer and have been having a great time surfing the internet and blogging. I now have an anti-virus program to keep out nasty surprises designed to make things miserable.

The only thing that bugs me now is memory. I do a disk clean-up every so often, and that does happen to help. I wish that I knew which things I could eliminate from the computer memory storage, but as I have mentioned before, I am more analog than digitally inclined.

I have learned to do some things, but can’t seem to figure out others. I am not giving up, though. The way I figure it if I keep trying, sooner or later some understanding will seep into my mind and I will understand a little better.

Gadgets

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Howdy, It is the opinionated female again !!

Saw something that would be good for the techno-type of person who likes to connect with a lot of different types of things all at once. It is called a HDMI switch. As is explained it makes it possible to hook up with at least three items with high tech stuff in it. I have no idea what it does or how it does it. As I have said before, I am still having trouble with being analog in these very digital times.

The idea of connecting one high tech gadget with something is enough to give me the shivers. However, connecting three at once has got to be something for the digitally minded type of person out there. I don’t mind the techno-types, because we all need them. I just wish that I could understand what is being said sometimes. :)
