Life, again, and again

Welcome back!

I mentioned homelessness in my last article.

Whereever I look in our town, I see signs that say homes for rent. We live near an army base so, that must mean that a bunch of the military have been transferred to other posts.

We, ourselves, live in an apartment complex that is loaded with seniors, and handicapped. No military here, and very few vacancies. People who are homeless, are usually that way because of finances, or tragedy. So far, we are not among them. For that I am thankful.

TV

Simple title for something that is not so simple, ain’t it? :)

What can I say, but that our favorite TV station - KWTX News 10 - gave an upbeat news program that was good news. They interviewed a veteran of the Iraqi war who had gone back to Iraq to see what changes, if any, there were to be seen. The man talked to the soldiers who were stationed there and mostly he was told that they were bored. The Iraqi people are doing most of the work and the American soldiers were bored.

You do not hear that on the national news.

I wonder why that is? Don’t you think that the American people would be glad to hear that the troop surge has worked? The more that things get better over there, the quicker that our soldiers can come home without the chance of things going bad after they are gone.

Well, any way, if you want to see this news article for yourself, go to the KWTX web site, and click on the ‘find it’ button. Look for - Vets For Freedom 08.15.08.

Forgotten?

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I went to school in the 1960s and the 1970s. I remember seeing peace symbols, marches, protesters, flowers, news clips, upset people. I wonder how the veterans from those years feel now? These days we try to appreciate our veterans. We should not forget all the older veterans and their families.

I am female and have never been in the military; but I appreciate that I am not enslaved or treated like trash because I’m not the same as everyone else. Our veterans, all veterans, are the ones who’ve made it possible. I can’t forget my freedom. I’m not always able to show my thanks to any vet I see. Not all vets are plainly marked to be recognized. Thousands of people, men and women, don’t advertise the fact of being a vet. It’s like being an officer of the law in at least two ways. Well, definitely more in fact:

1) It’s dangerous
2) Not everybody is willing to do the job.
3) It is a necessary job.
4) Many have families.
5) Some die or are hurt irreparably.
6) They are all human beings.

9-11 made us aware that we are not alone on the planet. We need to be aware that others do not agree with our beliefs. Criminals and terrorists are not compassionate, they don’t care or forget. They don’t care if others get hurt; nor do they forget what they want to do. We can’t afford to forget either.
