Acronyms

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

Welcome back!

Do you know what that word means?

When the people of this country talk about the CIA, they are using an acronym. That is something that we see everyday. NSA, FBI, USA, CBS, NBC, ABC, BCBS of NC are all examples of acronyms. We use them every day and don’t seem to think about them.

The last one mentioned is for a health plan company. As for the others, one is a television show, some are for broadcast stations, some are for government agencies.

Of course the one that is easiest for me to remember is USA! I am proud to be an American. Our country ain’t perfect, but I love it anyway.

Do you remember?

Do you remember what you were doing on important days?

When Kennedy was assassinated, I was staying with neighbors since momwas in another citry going to a special school for her work.

When Winston Churchill died, I was planning what to eat for my birthday.

When 911 happened, I had just arrived to visit my sister. We watched, together, with horror when the second tower was hit, and when the towers each collapsed.

Do you remember what you were doing when important things happened?

Why ?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

While the house was being cleaned, people were being killed.

We live only 30 minutes away from Fort Hood.

I called the husband of the lady who did the house cleaning. He told us to turn on the TV, that there had been a serious shooting at Fort Hood.

Why? There is no reason for doing something that horrible. I feel for the family members of anyone involved. Our neighbor has a son who works out there working on housing. He called his dad later and let him know that he was okay. There are a lot of people who got another type of call later that day.

I do not understand how anyone could do something like that. There is no reason for it.

Election Coming Up

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Come November, there will be an election for the office of President of the United States of America.

Both parties have their candidates lined up. Both seem to have their point ready to make for someone to choose them over their opponent.

I am a registered voter, I do vote. My question is….are you registered to vote? will you vote?

The last presidential election showed how important every vote is. Please do not just let things ride, then gripe when you do not like what happens. If you have a point of view, or a want for your country’s representative, VOTE. if you do not care to vote or to register……do not complain later, please.

Feelings

Monday, August 11th, 2008

I watched the Olympic games tonight. At least most of them. When the Swimmers were to take the podium for the awarding of the medals and the American swimmer had stepped up to receive the gold, it felt good.

The part that got to me was when the American National Anthem was played. The melody by itself is beautiful. The words spoke of a fight that was being waged. The feelings expressed were concern for whether or not the fight was being won by the new American people.

Thinking on what was being expressed made me cry. Our country has been a wonderful place to live. We have freedoms that are not always found in other areas. It made me wonder if our country will be able to continue to be free. I do not want our country to fail. I do not want our people to fail. So many other places have lost so much and people have suffered. Please pray for our country. Please pray for our people. Please pray for our leaders.

A Few Minutes

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

My brother-in-law sent me a site. It only takes a few minutes.

It is called ‘ Just One Minute ‘ , it will actually take about 4 minutes.

It plays the song ‘You are the wind beneath my wings”, there are images that will make you think. We live in a land where; we can vote, we can talk, we can protest, we can vote, we can drive down the street and believe that we will NOT be blown up.

American Flag

Friday, July 4th, 2008

I want to say OUR flag, but I know others from other countries read blogs, too.

My brother-in-law sent me a site that made me cry. It’s about the flag of MY country. I know that sometimes people mess up politically and in other situations; but, I love my country.

I hope other people can have a love of their country. Pride in the place where you live is very important. I don’t always like some of the things that I see happen - that’s life. At least I can be happy about where I live. I’s writing this on the fourth of July. Here in the USA that is our independence day, a time to celebrate. Many people have died to make sure that this country has a chance to exist. I like to give my opinions, I am allowed to do so. I like to worship the way that I like, I am allowed to do so. There’s more for me to like here, but I do not want to drag out my opinions.

Here is the site that was sent: home.comcast.net/~nw-fla/tribute_flag_B_thompson.htm
