Welcome back!

Okay, I’ve been thinking about it.

If anyone out there in internet-land has a recipe for sugarfree pecan pie, I would love to hear about it. I would really appreciate having some pecan pie and just do not want to worry about all of the calories that it might have. I guess the pie crust has enough by itself.

By the way do you have a really good recipe for pie crust? I’m hungry. :)

Eggs-zactly

Just read something that I thought was unusual and hilarious.

It involves 11 dozen eggs. I wish that I knew a lot of recipes for eggs other than cakes and stuff. If it was Easter, there would be no problem knowing what to do.

How many egg recipes are there anyway? This writer seems to know how to laugh at life. These days - that is important. When I read what happened, I couldn’t help myself, but guffaw, and then snicker. Of course I’ve never done anything like that….Ahem. Well, not with eggs. I have had many a disaster. So far, I have survived. :)

Temptation

That word can be fun or dangerous. Well, today I’m going for fun. My sister and I communicate all the time even though she lives in Arkansas.

One thing she does a lot is send me recipes over the internet. When I look at the pictures or read the list of ingredients, my stomach starts to growl and it stirs up my imagination. It is so much fun to read what she will send each time, and some of her comments are hilarious. One of my favorite comments is - Bwahahaha. In other words, uncontrolled laughter.:)

There isn’t enough laughter in this world of ours, so any excuse to laugh makes the world brighter. Some of the sites have such beautiful pictures of what is to be fixed that they should be in picture frames. Just think of it, an art gallery filled with yummy pictures of tasty food. Of course if you could find a way to give the art gallery the scent of wonderful food, any restaurants in the neighborhood would get a lot of business after each visitor leaves. Now that would really be fun temptation !

Regional Cooking

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Have you ever thought about the types of cooking done in different areas of the country?

Well, I know that I didn’t think about it much. However, one day I was sitting and talking to my sister-in-law about a Thanksgiving dinner. She looked at me and said that I was raised ‘northern’. When I asked her what she meant, she explained about what a Texas Thanksgiving dinner at her house would have. You see, I like food; but, I don’t think about where the different customs come from, I just like food. She gave some lists.

her list;
Baked or fried turkey, cornbread dressing, brown beans, sweet potato pie, giblet gravy, fruit salad, pea salad, some Mexican dishes, ham, brisket, rolls, mashed white potatoes, assorted cakes

my list:
baked turkey, white bread stuffing, green beans, juice gravy-no giblets, mashed white potatoes, tossed iceberg lettuce salad, cranberry sauce or relish, pecan pie, mincemeat pie, pumpkin pie, white bread rolls,

There were some other things that she would fix; but, I can’t remember them right now.
I had never heard of grits or biscuits and gravy until I had traveled south in the USA. Then there are things like gumbo, shrimp `etuffee (not sure I spelled it right), red bone gravy, greens(not spinach), blackeyed peas, purple hull peas, poke salad, boudin…..

The lists go on and on. Isn’t it amazing that there can be such choice all within one country. It’s called regional cooking, and the differences from one area of the country to another are amazing. Growing up, BBQ was meat cooked in BBQ sauce. I have learned since that the meat is usually smoked and the sauce is served on the side later. The mind can boggle with all of the possibilities. Remember that the differences in types of cooking, go along with the differences in the people that go with it. I’m glad that people are NOT all alike, for we would be bored silly otherwise. The fact that food changes with the people is rather exceptional….that doesn’t even cover the cooking and the people in other countries.
