To Smoke, or Not to Smoke

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Welcome back!

That is the question. I do not smoke. Have some friends that do. That’s life.

However, there are some new rules going around in this part of the country that I do not like. Politicians are trying to tell businesses whether or not to allow smoking in those areas. That choice should be left to the individual businesses to determine.

The next thing that I know the politicians will try to make rules against the electronic cigarette that some people are using. They already try to tell us what we can and can not eat. I mean what is with this people. Don’t they have enough to do without trying to mess with our individual lives. If the owner of a place does not want smoking, fine. If they do want smoking, fine. Put a notice on the door that says smoking allowed here. If non smokers do not want the smoke, they do not enter. SIMPLE, right………….not with politicians.

Can you guess that I am not fond of politicians? :)

Friend stopped by

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

A friend stopped by just now and was frustrated that he ran out of money for cigarettes. I have no idea if electronic cigarettes would help him or not. I guess it all depends on how much they cost.

He was working outside today and when he took a break, he met someone new. A fox kit stopped by and watched him. He sat down and watched right back. He tried to get the kit to get close, but it didn’t. They sat that way and watched each other for several minutes. Long enough to really study him and note that its chest was slightly red and the rest of it was kind of gray. The smile on our friend’s face when he told us about it was really amazing.

How often do we get a chance to study real wild critters without an interruption? :)

Back to the regular

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Back to the regular things of life.

Getting older, watching the world do its thing, Thinking about diets and phentermine. I like food too much.

Of course the name on this blog does give a hint to that doesn’t it? Why do diets have to be so hard/ Exercise is not possible for everyone. Some of the cheapest food on the market happens to be high in starches and calories.

Why is it that most of the things that taste great, also fatten great? I guess that I have a lot of questions. I enjoy tomatoes, cabbage, olives and other things. I also like cheese, bread, pasta, hamburgers, and other things like them.

You can’t quit eating totally like some can quit smoking totally.

It’s smokin’

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

A lot of places these day are set up as being smoke free. The Hospital whose clinic we visit so much is also that way.

If someone wants to smoke, they probably have to go home, get in their car, or go some place where they can get out their Swisher Sweets and puff away.

Once I smelled a cigar that smelled like hot chocolate. I do not remember the brand, but it smelled great, almost like insense or a cup of hot chocolate. I do not know if those things still exist. Most cigar do not smell so nice. It is a shame that they do not all have a nice aroma.

Cancer

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

I imagine that every family has been affected by this disease in one way or another. We, alone have had several friends and family members die because of serious diseases. It hurts.

Some times these things are caused by outside agents. Sometimes, people get involved in lawsuits because of those circumstances. Mesothelioma lawyers help with one specific type of cancer. There are other lawyers for other things.

The workplace can not only be tiring, but dangerous. Chemicals, electricity, machines, and people are all part of that environment. I remember working in Florida at a manufacturing firm that used heavy duty machines, and paint, and chemicals. It was a learning experience. I survived and learned.

Where ever you work, what ever your duties are caution is always advisable. Even in a fast food restaurant there can be dangers. Fryers can splatter, hot liquids spill. It is all part of life.

I just wish that cancer wasn’t. We lost a brother-in-law, an adopted sister, and friends to different types of cancer. None of those were what I’d call easy ways to die. What is so sad is that one of them was avoidable. Lung cancer. All those warnings about cigarettes are not just a lot of hype and hot air. Lung cancer is a very hard way to die.

If you have lost someone, you are not alone.

It’s Almost Gone :)

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Yes, I am wanting to smile. The coughing that has made my life so miserable is almost gone. All I have to do is avoid any smokers for a while and I will finally be finished. I have noticed that any type of smoke will cause a tickle to trigger a new bout of coughing.

I have gotten so frustrated with the coughing, that I have been using medicine that is not approved for someone with Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and what not. At least it has been effective in helping me deal with the nasty. There are so many types of cold and flue medicine out there that sometimes it is hard to make an educated choice about what to use when it is needed. Oh, for the day when I will no longer need to drink something that is making a mockery of the taste of cherry. I like cherries after all, but what has been described as cherry flavor in liquid medicines is nothing but a poorly disguised flavor additive. Licorice at least does work to disguise the tastes of some medicines. Oh well, Land Of No Cough - here I come, at last. :)

Smoking, or Not Smoking

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Many buildings these days are now marked as no smoking areas. Public buildings, private buildings. I have heard that there are even times that people want to make private homes no smoking areas. What ever happened to people having the right to choose?

I am not a smoker, but some of these laws bother me a lot. If a business wants to mark itself as a place where smokers are welcome, why can they not put up signs like that? Why do lawmakers want to define how private citizens live? Why do lawmakers feel they have to interfere in how private businesses are run? When has Big Brother ( George Orwell’s version) taken over private life? If people have the desire to pollute their own lungs, that is their choice. When the law makers interfere in private lives, they go too far.
