Internet Rip Off

Welcome back!

Welcome to another Two Ton Tilly Rant.

I have been trying surveys. I believe that I mentioned them in an earlier post. Well, I am fed up with one particular supposed survey call INBOX DOLLARS.COM. They promise 50cents for every e-mail read. However, they only give credit of one cent. Then when you try to actually get paid for any time and effort put into their activities, you get told that you can’t get paid until you achieve a credit way above what you supposedly have.

In other words, a royal RIP OFF. A lot of time and eye sight wasted on hidden spam and advertising. Nothing has been achieved except to tick off someone who isn’t afraid to label a thief for being a thief. So, beware of INBOX DOLLARS.COM. Their scheme is nothing more than a ploy separate you from you money and time.

Internet Rant

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Maybe it’s just me. I don’t know. All I know is that a particular type of search engine..doesn’t.

I keep getting messages..it can’t find the site…the site has expired…the site doesn’t exist! It does not seem to matter that I had just been using that particular site when BAM it’s gone and I’m looking at a poor excuse why it no longer is there. How can a site NOT exist when it had been getting used? I don’t know. I have found myself yelling at the monitor, calling it a liar, and worse. I know it is just a machine. It is not its fault. That doesn’t make it any less frustrating though.

I have no understanding of why this would happen. I have a firewall, and virus protection; so, my machine should be safe from those thugs that like to mess around with other people’s things. Programs only do what they are programed to do…I thought. Sometimes it makes me feel as if there is a bogeyman just waiting to surprise me with another useless unreasonable message. I almost wish that I could mess him up with Crisco in his hair or Vasoline on his monitor screen. That makes a pretty picture doesn’t it? :)

I feel better now. My rant has ‘expired’ sort of, at least until the next time.

Commercials…again

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

There is a commercial that I’ve seen on TV that irks me. It is not one I’ve mentioned before.

It involves cell phone service. A father gripes to his kids about how many minutes they use. Never mind that the girl has gotten excellent grades on a college course, never mind that his son almost kills himself ,destroys the garage, totals the car. The father can only see a bill. He doesn’t care about anything else.

His actions kill the girl’s excitement about achievement, the boy..in shock from almost being killed…does not understand why the gripe about a phone, and not the car or garage. The father’s priorities need to be rearranged. Not about the phone bill, but about his family.

5 Wheels of Torment

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Have you seen office furniture that has 5 wheels? How about those IV stands that you get in the hospital?

They never, repeat NEVER roll in a straight line. You tug them, pull them, get your toes banged, run into walls…..ARG !!!!!!

I use a rolling office chair for computer business. I have mashed my toes, banged my ankles, hit the table legs under the table, tried to scoot from one place to another. It is very frustrating. Why 5 wheels? 4 wheels seemed to work just fine. When in the hospital, the IV stand wouldn’t go where I needed it to go. Having to visit the bathroom became a nightmare. Considering that the hospital pumped me full of fluids, that was quite often. The IV stand caused so much trouble, that I carried it !! That was the only way that I could get access to the bathroom. NO JOY at all.

The person who created the 5 wheel stand should be forced to use only items with 5 wheels to see the curse that he has given to humanity.

Surveys

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Just spent about 7 hours on the internet looking at survey sites. Wow, some of them aren’t about surveys as much as they are about selling services, time shares, ring tones for phones, magazines, yata, yata, yata.

What a disappointment. Taking surveys happens to be something that can be fun. Sometimes surveys offer a chance at sweepstakes, or prizes. Most of the ones I met weren’t honest about what they wanted. Instead of answering questions that are part of a survey, you get presented with choices of services, over and over again. The answer of no is not taken easily. The same products are offered again and again. Where I come from, no means no, not try again. some surveys didn’t want to accept that I didn’t desire to publicize my phone number. The site wouldn’t move on until you gave them what THEY wanted. That isn’t surveying, that is only false advertising. The alt button and F4 sure did come on handy.

Spam

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

I am beginning to hate spam. It shows up when you least want it. The food in a can is alright, but the electronic type is a pain in the bottom. ( I try to spell tucus, but the spell check tells me it’s wrong.) On this site I keeep getting spam for ring tones. If I wanted ring tones I’d ask my provider, not anonymous johnnies who sneak their messages in on you. Broadcast TV is well known for it’s commercials, it is a shame that going on the internet you are bugged by advertising anyway.

Even cable TV is not free of commercials. I know the ad agencies need to make money; but, butinsky spam is not appreciated. Tried to look at something in an article found in Stumble Upon, but spam got in the way. UG! Yes, I’m ranting again. At least if you’re reading this, you chose it of your own free will, I didn’t spam you after all.:)

Being Judgemental

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Been looking at many different sites on the internet. Got lost for a while, now I’m back. Yippee! Not bad for a 54 year overweight broad. Read an article on CBS.com that didn’t sound nice, though. It was called ‘Fighting For God and Country’, Bigotry and judgementalism were talked about. YUK! (This is a public forum after, can’t cuss.) Is judgementalism a word. Don’t know right now, will check it out later. I thought with all the danger overseas that our troops would try to get along. There are times and places for differences of opinion, but when danger is present, a united front is safest. I thought that was what people were fighting for in the first place, the freedom to believe in different religions. Bigotry has NO place…anywhere. Guess I’m bigoted about that aren’t I?

Fossil Fuels

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Everyone is concerned about the ‘gas’ shortage. Meanwhile, our politicians seem to have no lack of ‘hot air’. Why do people only think of petroleum products for fuel.

Every person who has taken a drink of liquor can tell you that high octane sources come from more that just petroleum. RICE is used to make Saki - the Japanese and others know this. POTATOES are used to make Vodka - the Russians and others know this. SUGAR CANE is used to make Rum - the people of the Carribean know this. HOPS and BARLEY (not really sure about the ingredients here) are used to make Beer. WINE makers in many countries know that sometimes wine will turn into Brandy. It can also be made into vinegar. CORN, of course, is used to make Moonshine. That has been used to run vehicles for decades by the very people who make it. Every gardener who makes a compost heap knows that the rotting refuse makes potent aromas, eventually turning into fertilizer.

Now, I’m no expert on the origins of liquors, just what I’ve found out about in many different ways. No doubt there is a lot out there that we don’t know about. Even camels milk can be fermented!

Why are we so hung up with old fashioned, messy, polluting petroleum?

Digital Television

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Ecerywhere we turn the tv , no matter which channel, we keep hearing how good that digital tv is and will be.

We’ve got an analog set, a converter box, and an amplified antenna. Everything is hooked up. We sat down to watch the set and saw a lot of funny looking pictures with weird sounds. It’s hard to watch tv when you can’t make out what is being said or what is happening. We had to keep changing the angle of the antenna all the time. I even tried to mark the position which seemed to help get the best reception, but it kept changing. We’re supposed to have 15 different stations but can only watch actively 3 or 4 of them. The rest keep breaking up. Without the box, we receive 5 stations clearly without any problems.

We’ve given it up for now. We use the fancy amplified antenna and watch our regular stations with no problem.

Is Digital REALLY supposed to be better? Can’t tell.

Auto Insurance

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

It’s time to rant again, at least for me.

There is an auto insurance company that brags about supplying liability insurance for anyone. Unfortunately, their choice of examples of drivers they show makes me wish I was driving an armored truck or say maybe…a Sherman tank.

Yes, I said tank.

One example driver shown, chases people through the parking lot. He swerves his car back and forth, bumps things (or people), people run away screaming. He doesn’t slow down or use his brakes. The streets or parking lots are not the place to play dodgem cars.

Another example shown says she NEEDS her car. She admits to more than a few tickets, and more that just a couple of accidents. Neither example driver should be on the road until they have gone through drivers education training. They need to learn that driving a car is not a right,; but is a responsibility.Enabling dangerous peole to occupy our roads is not encouraging.

Driving cars is not a game or target practice. Once someone gets behind the wheel the gaming stops.
