Winter is coming

Welcome back!

Yup, winter is coming.

I have no idea just what type of winter we will have here in Texas. I have heard that up in the pan handle, they have already had some snow. I don’t know if they would have a need for snow tire chains, studs, or what not.

When I was growing up on St. Louis, Mo. all of the above were needed at one time or another. We would sometimes have trouble with power lines coming down, schools being closed, etc. Here in Texas, the winter have not been so severe as they were in Arkansas and Missouri. I do sometimes miss the snow….but only a little.

‘Spare’ time

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Well, for the first time in 2 years, we actually have a spare tire that might live up to its name.

I spent the better part of the day running around, calling around, and finally finding a tire that was bought. I almost feel as if one of my nieces gave me some baby announcements. I know it might sound silly to get excited about such a thing as a spare tire, but when you haven’t had one for a while, it is exciting.

Too many times we have had to go 20 miles somewhere and went without having a spare, or even a jack. Well, spare it is and jack is in the back. Me happy. :)

Tires - tires - ARG

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

You know, it is really hard to drive on any road when one side of your tire is flat.

I called around a few places and could not find a 14′ tire , unless I wanted a new one at a price that we cannot afford. I found myself screaming at the sky over that one. Is it not a pain in the tucus.

I finally found a tire. First, however, I checked the van to see what size was needed to be replaced. This is what I found.

Right front tire - 185/60/14
Left front - 195/70/14
Right rear - 185/70/14
Left rear - 185/65/14
Spare tire - 205/70/14 It also had a hole in the sidewall, useful - NOT

If you read the list carefully, there are 5 different sizes connected to our van. ARGThat is one way to go nuts quickly. We were blessed. There is a place nearby that sells car parts. You pull the part off the junker with your own tools. At least the tires were already on a rack and didn’t need to be removed from the rims. After we got the flat tire inflated, went to the bank, drove to the parts yard, got the tire, went to the repair shop and they installed the tire for us. Our back tires now match. Will wonders never cease.( HAH insert sarcasm here.)

Oh well, we got a tire and we are on the road again. The spare, well……The rear tires are both now 185/70/14’s. Yes we can roll on down the road. For now.

Flat Tire

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

How about a simple subject.

A FLAT TIRE. GRRRRRRRR

Just when we need to go pay bills using our vehicle, a flat tire. Life happens to us one way or another. However, I am tired (please forgive the play on words here), of being left flat.

OK, I couldn’t resist that one. :)

Everyone has something in their life that will frustrate them at one point or another. Even the ‘little things’ can get your blood boiling if they come when you are tired. I realize that vehicles need maintenance. I sometimes wonder about the timing of these things. Coil wires ( 2 within one month), flat tires (again, 2 in a month), these are not bi9g things. They just keep you from going anywhere.

I want to save on gas usage, but REALLY.

I Hate Flats

Monday, April 20th, 2009

When I talk about flats, I do not mean flats of strawberries, shoes, or apartments.

I am talking about flat tires. ARGH ! We just finally got our vehicle working again, drove it to the store and home. We went to visit mom for a while, and then after a few hours we went home.

We didn’t make it all the way home, though. As we turned one of the last three corners, I heard a funny sound. Realized it was the sound of nasty and checked it out, YUP FLAT.

I have heard the old joke that it is only flat on one side. I hate flats. ‘Nuff said.
