Tornadoes Again

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Welcome back!

In my previous post, I wrote about only a few of the experiences I’ve had with tornadoes. I’m NOT an expert. The experts are located with the National Weather Service. This is also called NOAA. Below is the link to find out multiple facts about different types of weather. Hurricanes and tornadoes are storms to be wary of experiencing.

Please check it out! This is important. Hiding under overpasses does not work, it is dangerous. Racing away in your car is also dangerous. Tornadoes can travel faster that a car, plus it is not limited to just using the road like the car is limited. Check out this site learn what is fact, and live. Please!

Tornados and Other Storms

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

More storms in our country. More people hurt and homes lost. It hurts to hear these things.

I talked to a young lady at our phone provider store the other day. Told her of growing up in ‘tornado alley’ in St. Louis, Missouri. When we talked, I learned that not a lot is known about tornadoes by some here in Texas. I remember having to open the apartment windows just a little to avoid explosive decompression. That is why so many destroyed buildings look like kindling. A direct hit by a tornado is not something that is easily prepared for. The TV stations warn people not to hide under the overpasses because the suction of the storm would drag people out, yet people hide there anyway.

Growing up I saw yellow skies, green, pink, you name it. I learned that when the winds get still while it blows elsewhere, pray. The hail that I showed in an earlier post is only one thing that damages buildings. The wind, the vacuum from the storm also are major causes of damage. I’m no expert, I’ve just lived through it.

Digital, Analog, Hard Copy, and Stubborn

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Just wrote something. Duh! Talk about stating the obvious, HA. If you are reading this of course you already know that more than one blog has been put down today.

In my previous blog I mentioned being a novice or beginner in blogging. Yes, I like to talk, it is pretty obvious with all that has been written by me lately. All of the digital devices that are available today can be wondrous in what they can do. However, I had a recent reminder about the fragility of such devices. In our town we had apparently, 2 tornadoes that passed through. Thank God mostly passed through. I tried to called a friend that travels on a certain highway where they had recently had an accident, couldn’t get through to make sure that he was OK. Got very frustrated (GRRRRR) did not know why I could not make a phone call. I was afraid that with all the internet stuff that I did, had gotten a virus into the phone.

Totally lost all reception couldn’t reach anyone. The camera part worked great. Got a few pictures of the big hail stones, but no phone calls. Never realized that a tornado could interfere with a cell phone. Right then would have loved a land line. Of course I didn’t know if any land lines went down though. After the storm passed, the phone worked again. A learning experience that I could have done without.

The phone was digital, any land lines are analog, I’m hard copy, and the tornado was stubborn. I survived, the phone survived, I guess the land lines survived, the tornado went away finally. Prayer does work Thank God.
